Fitbit says data of its 28 million users will not be sold or used for Google ads

Google’s recent acquisition of Fitbit for $2.1bn has left many users worried the tech giant may soon have access to their most intimate health information – from the number of steps they take each day to their breathing patterns, sleep quality or menstrual cycles.

Fitbit, founded in San Francisco in 2007, tracks the health data of 28 million users. In a blogpost following the acquisition on Friday, Fitbit claimed user data would not be sold or used for Google advertising. “Consumer trust is paramount to Fitbit. Strong privacy and security guidelines have been part of Fitbit's DNA since day one, and this will not change,” the company said in a statement.

Believe any of this & have a beautiful orange-painted bridge in San Francisco that I can make you a great deal on. Google will use this data stream the same way they use the one from YouTube. They will know everything about you: how you make love, how often you make love, when you drive & how far & on & on. Nothing about you will be yours anymore.

My tech-savvy wife wore a Fitbit for about six months, lost interest and gifted it. Not my thing. I have told my wife repeatedly the last two weeks I do not want an Apple Watch. I do like many of my I-phone features. I choose a moderate level of safety and security measures regarding protection of personal data.

Somebody at google is now suffering from eyes popping out of head. What my wife and I did this afternoon for a matinee scorched the ceilings.

We huffed and we puffed and just could not blow out the flame on that crappy aroma therapy candle.

Oy, vey iz mir meshugganah! (Oy, from the world of the crazy!)

And so what?

This hysteria about Google and Facebook is getting out of hand. Yes they use our information for targeted ads and that is the price for thier services. At least it is very open and transparent. Problem comes when possible 3rd parties abuse that information like Cambridge Analytical.

What I worry about is companies that say they are not collecting info and yet they clearly are. Why does Fitbit have any data at all...ever ask that question?

At least it was with your wife. I can see private security firms paying big $$$ to get access to these data streams for their clients.

I doubt anyone would drop more than one thin dime to see my bony derriere.

I got a kick out of reading how Amazon workers and contractors, along with Apple's, got their jollies listening to their respective device users make the beast with two backs.

The days of privacy are long gone. With more than half of the American adult population openly admitting to dalliances outside of their marriages, the value of data about which people are doing what, diminishes more with every passing day.

Take a close look at Fitbit's annual stockholder's statement. You'll find a few lines for data income, and future data income estimates.

Every time I purchase a new baby gift online, afterwards I receive an endless amount of junk mail offerings for children's clothes and toys, along with life insurance for children and advice on how to gain entry into elite preschools. Boggles the mind.

Gawker Media folded shop, perhaps never paying a dime to Hulk Hogan. Still, the saga spotlighted some of the underlying questions of breaching personal data.

Hulk Hogan has made a career out of performing and promotion.... examples: wrestling, family life Reality TV and sexual intercourse on video with his best friend's wife. That video led to a multi-million $$$ judgment! He had a deep-pocket sponsor to fund a lawsuit and a conservative circuit court judge in my area of Florida to seal a judgment.

Hulk Hogan Wins $25M In Punitive Damages Against Gawker – Deadline

: Terry Bollea (aka Hulk Hogan) has just been awarded another $25M in punitive damages in his invasion of privacy lawsuit against Gawker Media, after receiving a whopping $115M on Friday from a Florida jury.May 25, 2016

I never could stand anything on my wrist. I used an 1800s pocket watch before I got a cell phone.

Anyone who wants to gain entry into an elite preschool probably drives a white van.
