First private Israel lunar mission to be launched this week

RAMAT GAN, Israel (AP) — A nonprofit Israeli consortium said Monday that it hopes to make history this week by launching the first private aircraft to land on the moon.

SpaceIL and state-owned Israel Aerospace Industries told a news conference that the landing craft — dubbed “Beresheet,” or Genesis — will take off from Florida, propelled by a SpaceX Falcon rocket on its weeks long voyage to the moon.
==============================
Another win for Musk. I've heard that after landing, Genesis will perform a briss on itself to commemorate the new born creation.

Hell no! The moon belongs to the US.

It's almost miraculous, such a small and endangered country is now joining the ranks of nations pursuing space exploration.

Actually the Moon is part of the common heritage of humanity.

Humanity can suck it! It belongs to the US and we should start putting things up there....like advertisements.

They get massive amounts of free money from US taxpayers, so of course they can afford it.

How exactly is Israel a small and endangered country?

I read a sci-fi book last year (Artemis) that had, as one of its historical underpinnings, a history where Kenya had become an economic and cultural super power by opening it's trade, and offering huge tax breaks, to private space exploration consortium, and successfully overhauled its entire economy to space exploration. It was a very interesting premise.

I would guess something like that is actually a good probability if/when someone develops a dependable way to harvest resources from the moon.

iLOL
Please provide the US or International law/declaration that says the US owns the moon.

What is even more funny is that if we did own the Moon we would certainly let Israel land and do experiments on it.

Neither of those things are relevant to the ability and desire to do so.

How exactly is Israel a small and endangered country?

Well, israel is about as big as new jersey, with only 9 million people, while Egypt, Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon hate israel and they have, put together, have over 120+ million people.

We've got the most powerful military, thats why. ;)

That does not negate my request, does it?

iLOL. Yes it does. The barrel of a big gun beats any sort of treaty.

If Israel wants to use it, they have to pay us because we own it. But they can't use it because we need it for Space Force!

So you want to continue being silly? Figures.
Since you believes it is ours - I extend the challenge to you also.

Wrong as usual.
That would be; Space force Trumps all.

But back to the topic.

Syria is in absolutely no position to do anything. Egypt and Jordan have both largely reconciled with Israel over the years; Egypt is far more concerned about ISIS or AQ -aligned forces in the Sinai. Lebanon doesn’t amount to a wet fart. That’s not “endangered”.

And a GDP almost double their nearest neighbor, Egypt, and military spending to match. Israel is more than capable of funding and defending itself. Not to mention political strife heavily impacting all of their neighbors preventing them form doing anything, especially Syria.

Riiight.....i think something like that is pretty miraculous. Their neighbors hate them, and have the means to destroy them, but instead, they're gdp is comparable to other successful economies and their military is as strong as all of their neighbors combined. Quite the accomplishment for a country the size of new jersey! No one would hold it against them if they were as poor and as chaotic as say, lebanon. But they're not. Israel's hateful neighbors are the ones that suffer, and they do not.

That's your judgement, based on, i think, a very limited look and not really justified. Hezbollah and Hamas make their careers off hatred of Israel, and they both pose existential threats. Iran, as well, has been threatening israel have slowly advanced into Iraq and Syria amid the chaos. Isis actually doesn't mean much anymore, but no doubt, Israel lives in a very chaotic area. Many of the arab leaders make it known they are against israel, and mobilize their support based on that. Yet, it's their neighbors that take the brunt of the chaos, while israel continues to prosper. It's small, endangered, and yet, thriving. How much more successful would they be if their neighbors accepted them? If nations like Turkey, Iraq or Saudi Arabia were to increase trade relations with israel, much like they do with the west, Israel could very well become a world superpower.

Laws and treaties don't matter to Trump. The Moon is ours, and all others best keep their grubby little hands off of it!

Or Else!

:lamo

Oh really?

How many fighter jets does Hamas have?

How many modern tanks does Hezbollah possess?

Do either one have nuclear weapons?

No?

Then they are not an “existential threat”. Not even close.
