Hey.. I am in the process of maybe getting a new phone and that got me thinking... what phones do people have and what are their experiences. At the moment I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and a Galaxy S5.

I bought an S7 edge when the S8 came out making the price drop. I've been pretty happy with it. That replaced an S5. I did the iPhone thing for a while, but I just didn't like the Apple ecosystem.

My wife has been using cheaper Motorola devices and in general she likes them. Her new G6 is due to arrive today or tomorrow, so I'll be required to port everything from her old phone over to that.

I have a S5 Neo, wife has a Apple 7S I believe, father in law has a Huawei (model before the new P20)

My S5 is short on memory both storage and RAM, it gets slow and needs to be restarted every so often. I got it new about 2 years ago. Very few applications and no games installed. The camera quality is poor compared to my old LG Chocolate phone that I had back in 2010

I hate the map and navigation on the 7S, very poor compared to Google maps

The Huawei has vastly more ram and built in storage than my phone, no idea about the price.

All the new phones are getting to big, IMHO, I have an iPhone SE because all my friends and family have iPhones so I got an SE while they were still available because it's small and "I" like that. Not just "whelmed" with the Apple "thing" but it works. I liked my Motorola Max-Mini Android better, but it was getting old an I wanted to be more compatible with my peeps. I "think" by the time I need to replace the SE smart watches may be my next move, they're not "there" yet but in a year or so??? I don't like "working" on a phone, not even a bigger one. I text, answer email (short answers) and do minimal research from my phone so a "smart watch" would work for me and since I still wear a watch so it would free up a pocket and I'd still have something on my left wrist. I've always dedicated my right front pocket to my phone ~ face in, that keeps them like new … for me. That kinda rambles but there you have my 2 cents.

In Switzerland it’s a “handy!”

I’m ate up with Apple, from iMac, iPod, iPad and phone. I have my issues, but they are all integrated and I left Microsoft Windowsyears ago. It is an expensive phone and if you are active on Android, there is a learning curve....

Learning curve.. funny!!!.. more like "what the hell did Apple think when they did this".. :) iOS is a mess settings wise... especially the last few years because of changes that made it worse!

I went from an Iphone 5 something to an unlocked Moto G Plus last spring. Could not be happier. Great value phone.

Yea I have been looking at the Moto G series but the screens are too small for me. Value is great though. When you hold a Honor 8X next to a Moto One (the pure android phone).. the bezzels omfgs!!!. The Moto One is larger in size to the Honor 8X but the screen size is 5.7 vs 6.5... kinda no brainer for me.

A friend gave me a Note 4 when I got out of the hospital 3 years ago. It had problems with the camera (they all did, from what I understand), but that didn't bother me. I don't take many pictures and you can't beat free.

But then it started having battery issues. I went through all the steps I could find, including buying a new battery. No help. So I got a brand new LG 20. Nice phone.

I don't see myself getting a new phone till this one dies. Heck, I might die first. LOL!!

You can buy Note 4 batteries on Amazon and other places. My issue is battery related (I think) so I can just buy a new battery for the Note 3 for like 10 bucks or so.. but still it is a good excuse to get a new one. LG 20 hmm heard good things about that too.

Well the "Neo" models of Samsung phones back then were the cheap versions of the range... so that is why it has said problems :) The camera should be okay though.

And yea, Apple Maps sucks.

I have been playing around with the Mi Max 3 that a client bought because he wanted the biggest screen...

And holy **** it is big... 6.99 inches and frankly it might be big but it is not too big. For the price I have to say what a smartphone.

Yea you lack NFC so no mobile payment but for a 78 year old it ain't a problem.

Camera is good and it is speedy. Screen could be brighter but that is a problem with most phones that don't cost the same as a car.

Other than that I have only found one issue around a method to shrink the screen for one handed use... it is not consistent.

When I went back to my HUGE Note 3 (as it was called in 2013)... lets just say it felt inadequate to say the least....

My search goes on but the Mi Max 3 is a candidate...

So it ended up with an Honor 8x and I have to say what a massive upgrade. 2 day battery life for 1/5 of an iPhone.... Amazing smartphone.

I have no complaints about my Samsung Galaxy 7. It does everything I want it to, and a lot of things I had no idea a smart phone can do.

I have a 256 GB SD card in it, with literally thousands of photographs and videos, and topographic maps of the western Sierra from Lake Tahoe to Sequoia NP I can use off line.

My wife just got a Honour cell phone yesterday, not sure of the model

Moto g5s plus. For $200 or so it's a very good phone. This is my 4th amoto and I will be upgrading tp the g7 when it comes out. So obviously I like them.

There are a few.. cheap and expensive :)

From what I was told yesterday she has 6 gigs of ram and 64 gigs of storage on it at a cost of around $350 Canadian with no plan (flat out purchased)

Oi! that is high midrange.. should be a good buy. I am so far loving my Honor 8X because of the 6.5 inch screen :) Size DOES matter :)

She is using it to replace I believe an Iphone 7 or 7S which she wanted for the name

I used to have an LG4, until the screen started going dark for no apparent reason, battery still charged and all. I called a repair place. "Oh, the LG3's all do that. Now, the 4's are starting too. We can fix it, but it will only last a couple of weeks."

So, I called Verizon, "Where can I get a phone that isn't an LG?"

They sold me a cheapie. It worked more or less, but only had something like 8 gigs of memory, way not enough. I put in an SD card, but not just anything can be put on the card for some unknown reason.

Some apps just didn't run well. After I dropped it from the top of the gym lockers to the concrete floor, nothing much worked any more. That's when Costco ran a special on the Samsung: Buy one, and get a $200 Costco gift card (no problem using that one) and a 256 gig SD card. I didn't even know there was a card with that much memory. It was about the size of my fingernail (mini card) and held as much data as 256,000 of the old floppy disks. Amazing.

I've had no issues with the Samsung, and love having all that memory.

LG V20 owner here.
I really dread the day I have to replace this unit because I want to keep my ports and jacks, and I want to keep the ability to quickly swap out batteries.
But it looks like non-swappable batteries are the future, and much to my absolute hatred, everyone wants to get rid of headphone jacks and USB ports as well.

I'm very happy with the V20, it's rugged and durable, and it seems quick enough to get out of its own way.
But I know the day is coming. Sigh...

Yea the day of being able to swap out your battery are gone. Has to do with water proofing...for the most part. But saying that, now days phones come with 3000+ mAh batteries and quick charging, so the need of having extra batteries is gone. My new phone lasts 2 day plus on moderate use and over a day with nutso use. We talking 6 hours plus of on screen time, which was unheard of for most phones just 2 years ago.

As for the headphpne jack...pisses me off too because there is no reason to do it. I would rather have a slightly thicker phone with a headphone jack and large battery than a thin ass phone that is slippery and costs as much as a premium laptop.

One thing that is good however is the universal adoption of USB C that is happening...sadly my new phone still has old USB 2.0 but it is a compromise I was willing to make.
