Look, spiders are great. They’re an important part of the ecosystem and benefit humans by eating insects, including mosquitoes and agricultural pests. That said, many people are afraid of spiders, even the kinds that pose no risk to humans.

To those people, please, don’t read any further. Because scientists have discovered more about a process that allows some spiders to “fly” without the aid of wings. According to a study published Thursday in the journal Current Biology, spiders use natural electric fields to help them travel as far as hundreds of miles.

The phenomenon of spiders seemingly floating for long distances isn’t new. Scientists have long observed spiders “ballooning,” meaning shooting out strands of silk and floating away into the air. But they have debated exactly how it works.
==============================================
Morley and Roberts found that spiders appear to be able to detect electrical fields.

Maybe they're using us to make electricity and they have big plans.

I have often walked into a strand at face level and wondered ‘how did that get here?’

The Bajorans were following the examples of spiders for space flight when we on Earth were just learning to sail the seas.

That strikes me as a real quote. Reading it in her voice probably doesn't help to remember if so. No, "we on Earth"... Riker?

Jake to his dad, Captain Sisco, in the form of a question. It’s not a direct quote, but very close. DS9 season 3 episode 22 - Explorers. Had to look up the season and episode number and name.

Nice. I bet I can find one from Riker about Bajoreans. Maybe not space flight, but I think so.

I need a search engine for trek quotes. With keywords I could find what I'm looking for and more.

Not exactly a search engine, but close: Memory Alpha | FANDOM powered by Wikia

I'd only enjoyed the original and TNG, and given up hope for liking the others. I'd watched a little DS9 (when it aired) and got bored. I tried Voyager last year and was pleasantly surprised. I like episodes about first contact, and the definition of life or person. An episode or two is both.

I'm surprised no quote search engine at a serious fan site.

DS9 is my favorite. I liked Enterprise but not as much as the others. TOS is great and TNG gets good after the first season. Voyager was good from the beginning but got great after season 3. Give DS9 a chance and with just a few exceptions of certain episodes (season 1 episode 10 is a WTF example) I think you’ll be pleased.

Nothing could be as bad as first season TNG. Episode 4, Code of Honor. Wow. The cast and crew mutinied. The writer(?)/director was fired during filming. The final fight scene, which goes on forever, she couldn't care. She said she couldn't care, the whole thing was absurd and offensive and everyone just wanted it over. Today the episode is universally condemned by everyone involved (except, perhaps, the nutbag they let do an episode).

Since People of Earth was cancelled (produced/written by Greg Daniels of The Office and Parks and Recreation), there's some tv time available.

Nature is so amazing... we can find all our invention just from observing it. Makes me sad that so much is being destroyed before we can learn about it.

Yes, like Trump opening up those protected marine reserves to commercial fishing.
