Chinese scientists claim they are developing a radar so sensitive it can detect mosquitoes flying more than a mile away.

The device uses the latest military technology to measure the wing-flapping speed of individual insects, according to one of the researchers involved in the government project.

This new radar development comes out of the same program dedicated to developing a radar capable of detecting stealth aircraft.

They can claim what they like but I will say that it is not pretty clear that America took a very expensive time consuming wrong turn with stealth tech.

The real trick will be to determine the billions of insects from the stealth aircraft.

I can say that I am developing a compression algorithm that can cram four hours of 4:4:4 16 bit RAW video at 8K resolution at 120 fps into a 128 megabit thumb drive.

Lots of sensors, fast communications, and really big computers. That would leave us with planes that are not at all stealth, are very expensive to operate, and which have low availability rates...not the way to win a war. China is going to take out our satellites at the jump hobbling us because all of the plans our geniuses have devised assume that the satellites will work, then they will swarm with huge numbers of pretty good ships and aircraft. Our numbers will suck because we chose to build small numbers of very expensive things.

Don’t buy into the Chinese bluff.

The Chinese space station that just fell? General electronics failure. (General Failure is present at most Chinese factories. He works in quality control).

They are getting better very fast...having Russia as a partner and stealing Western Tech will do that so long as the proper will power is present....and it is.

Can they tell which one is the "stealth mosquito?

Those who dont believe in China's ability should look at the following starting around 25:00:

He is wrong on two points...1) spending 25% of what the US does not mean that they are getting 25% of our capability, because they get so much more for their money than we do.....they work fast and they work cheap, which is the path to victory.

2) he says something to the effect (I watched this many months ago) that yes they are building a military fast with great stuff, but it will take them decades to learn how to use it well enough to be a threat to America....that is pure fantasy.

And here we are, just letting all the mosquitoes in.

So what is Trump going to do about it...tweet? Build a coal fired aircraft? A wall? Blame Obama? What?

Trump is not going to do anything. Between the party of resistance and the do nothing party "We the People" can just put our heads between our knees and kiss our backside goodbye.

Not at all. Insects don't fly hundreds of miles per hour.

When you have multiple targets reflecting radar back ghost readings will be tough to eliminate. Plus with counter measures it will be like looking into a camera flash then trying to determine the one cigarette glow from a swarm of fire flies. Before you can focus you get flashed again.

Not really, radars separate objects by azimuth and Doppler shift, so if their radar's sensitivity really is that good, they'll be able to filter high speed objects VERY easily.

Yes, it is theoretically possible to jam it, but the US would need to know how their technology works and where the radars are deployed.

Perhaps the radar technology will be used to track drones....because the US used a lot of drones in the ME conflicts.

We're not really gonna know how effective any of these systems are unless a shooting war happens, and odds are it wont.

Radar is just radio waves at a specific frequency. Once they turn it on we have the tech to determine the frequency and transmit at that frequency.

Stealth works at certain frequencies not others. The use of dual or multiple band radar with combining the resulting signal returns for processing is the to go. Or take out the AEW&C planes and make the US stealth planes rely on their own radar which would light them up for targeting.

Last but not least is the use of IRS targeting pods to search for the rather hot exhausts of the jets. Tbe Russians are supposed to have a system that can identify out to 50 miles or so

It is still going to be very difficult to get a missile lock on a target several hundred miles away that is deploying counter measures along with counter measures from other sources. Even the F-15 has eluded missile lock for decades now without the advantage of stealth. I think for near future just figuring out if we are up there will be a challenge. Everybody has claimed to have our number until the actual battle is under way. Then it is the combination or our over all defenses and offence that prevail.

Solution is not to go for missile lock, just direct to the known location, allow for guidance during flight, achieve lock on at closer range.
