French President Emmanuel Macron is to unveil proposals backed by 1.5 billion euros in public funds to make France a centre of reference for artificial intelligence research.

Macron hosted a dinner on Wednesday for about a dozen AI specialists and industry leaders convened as part of a conference that was held in Paris on Thursday.

AI looks like the way to the future. Consequence will likely be to put a lot of people out of work, like self-driving long haul trucks will put a lot of drivers out of work.

And the French people are going to look at Macron and ask him why he is using their money to help this along.

This guy looks like another Nothing Burger like Trudeau most days.

I don't think society is designed for people not to work in order to earn money to support themselves & the government through taxes. Funny how that works.

Currently, no. But the day is coming that we're gonna have to take a hard look at that.

When you stop and think about it this amounts to peanuts. About $500 million dollars/year. I'm sure a number of the giant tech companies are EACH spending that much. No way to know what the Federal government spends, but my guess would be multitudes of this amount.

I'm sure DARPA, IBM, Intel & others are investing in this area. One of DARPA's objectives would likely be self-aware robot soldier drones.
