Don’t be surprised if you hear and feel a “frost quake” tonight | WQAD.com

we heard two of them last night. it was kind of a concussive boom, as if someone fired a large caliber weapon right outside the house or maybe had an auto collision. found out what it actually was this morning. have any of you heard one of these before?

I didn't know they had a name, but have been aware of them since childhood. You hear them on small scale when moisture freezes on a surface near 32 and then the temp plummets. I always wondered about the thawing of the Arctic and the associated expansion of the previously frozen terra. Not slush, but expansion. It must be in an upward direction because it is terra bound.
