Hard to say. What's intelligence?
Oh, I get it. Intelligence is what IQ tests say it is.

They're only a measure of a particular type of intelligence. For instance, they do not measure emotional intelligence, nor can they reliably make allowances for differences in culture, language, or quality of education. Yeah, sure, there is a correlation between classic IQ scores and how successful one tends to be in the world (depending on how one defines success, of course), but there's so much more that must factor into the equation.

An IQ test is a great way to test ones ignorance

Not very sufficient, but fun to take.

IQ tests are good at determining how well you do at IQ tests.

I scored a 131 on my IQ tests and a 1460 on my SATs back in the 90s. I still flunked out of college my first attempt.

for some people, but probably not for everyone.

They said compared to the average Liberal I'm Mensa

1. It's not the best grammar to begin a sentence with the world they if you don't have a preceding sentence that establishes specifically whom you are referring to.

2. There is no reason to capitalize the word liberal in that sentence as you are referring to a person's ideology, not their membership in an organization.

3. Mensa is an organization, not an adjective.

I can see why you don't like IQ tests, and yes, I am just ****ing with you.

Interesting irony in that remark. Ignorance is different than intelligence. For example, I use to accuse Sarah Palin of profound ignorance, though I always saw her as reasonably intelligent. She was simply intellectually lazy.

That said, it is my experience that intelligent people tend to be less ignorant, but likely is a cause/effect relationship as intelligent people often have an intellectual hunger which, when fed, reduces ignorance.

Ya gotta do the work in college. Intelligence will get you into college, but then you are in a competitive environment surrounded with people with those numbers.

I can relate. I had similar numbers and almost flunked out my first semester, but I ultimately graduated in four years.

I do agree that an IQ test measures your ability to do an IQ test. It's most reasoning ability. Intelligence is a many faceted thing. Great artists have a type of intelligence that I do not have; but I might clean their clock in, say math or business. We each would have different gifts. Neither gift superior to the other, just different.

I do think Donald Trump is one of the most ignorant Presidents ever elected. I think he is very pedestrian intelligence. Much of his ignorance is because he is intellectually lazy; some of it is because he just isn't that bright. That said, the man does have a certain type of genius in his ability to manipulate people that frankly I don't understand.

was that 1460 on two parts (very good) or three parts (OK)? Also depends on the school you went to. If very selective then the competition for grades was that much greater.

You are absolutely right on all accounts. I maintained a 4.0 in high school without much studying at all and made the stupid assumption I could do the same in college. My step-father, on the other hand, didn’t go to college until he was in his 40s. He is a great man but his IQ is likely below average and his reading is very slow. He also has some learning disabilities. But he ended up making mostly As and a couple Bs in college because he worked his ass off. He went to class every day and study 4 or 5 hours when he got home. He would be cussing at the books the whole time but he forced that information into his head nevertheless.

I would put my money on a hard worker over a person with a high IQ any day of the week. Trump having a somewhat low IQ wouldn’t be a problem if he was willing to put in the work needed to learn what he needs to learn. But he doesn’t seem willing.

When I took the SATs it was 2 parts. I think the highest you could get back then was 1600. I always did well at those standardized tests. My problem back then had more to do with a poor work ethic and procrastination. I didn’t really fix those things until I joined the Army.

I went to Texas A&M because I initially planned on becoming a veterinarian.

Good school. Probably competed with students who tested as well as you and also worked hard. I always say IQ is an indicator of potential, how people use it varies.

Jordan Peterson covers the merits of IQ very well I think:

No. IQ tests are barely sufficient to accurately evaluate IQ.

How aren't they? Do you understand how a linear regression works?

Actually, I'll ask you this, you have a choice of your child being born with an IQ of 65 or an IQ of 130, which do you pick?

How aren't they?
IQ it too complex and unspecific measure and the various tests to simplistic and subject to influence by irrelevant factors. I don't think the result of any given IQ test can be relied on anything more than a general guide.

Oh.

You flunked out, huh?

Couldn't have been because your results were perverted by your addiction to inhaling smoke from those cute little green leafy plants in your avatar, could it?

As in you were STONED 24/7/365.

Even with 1460 SATs YOU NEED TO BE SOBER TO LEARN from class and to earn passable home work and test scores.

Yeah....no.

I never touched weed until after I retired from the Army after a 20 year career. Hell, I only even got drunk once in college.
