Apple Deliberately Slowed Down iPhones in Order to Drive Sales, Some Say

They were driving people to a new phone the way faulty auto parts drive people to new cars. The very same way tobacco industry health research drove people to cigarettes.

It's cheating and lying; nothing new.

So we're OK with 'nothing new'? We've been screwed before so let's be screwed again?

Maybe they do, but you seem to develop the rage of the run of the mill antichristlettes we see so often of late. I has the feel of a fanatic about it.

Anyway, the iPhones I’ve had and have are certainly among the best mobiles I’ve used, though, I do like android ones too.

We should all be 'fanatics' for not getting tooled in the rear by greedy companies.

As a techie myself, having my degree in the field and working in the tech field there are no apple products in my house. I decided quite sometimes ago on that. Over the years I had some of them but then I stopped. Then unfortunately sometimes I worked places that used them for certain things but eventually all but one moved on. Their over-proprietary stuff, shady practices and non user friendly devices (if you are a techie and want control) wore thin with me a long time ago. Doesn't mean their "products" are ****, they are not, they also aren't anything special though either. I just hate their practices. But the trick is if the sheep aren't smart enough to know their shady practices or better yet for Apple dont care about them then thats that. More power to apple. They will never get my money but they don't care about my money when millions of other sheep are willing to pay. Heck I still get in arguments with people who think apple invented the MP3 player :lamo Apple really haven't invented much of anything especially in the phone world. Anyway apple will only change if their customers make them and that doesn't seem like its gonna happen soon. They have brilliant marketing and people fall for it.

Apple has always been about planned obsolescence. They've been doing it for years. And, yes...there are a lot of smart kids these days, when coupled with so much information on the internet, that won't take this kind of crap.

One thing I don't get is what standing the lawsuits have. Apple has the most oppressive TOS agreements to ever exist, so just using their products you accept all kinds of things.

Apple has practiced vendor lock in in their products from day one. Its a closed ecosystem / platform. To participate, you have to pay and comply with their demands. Its what's made Apple the corporation they are.

Rather surprised that people volunteer for this. Now they've experienced what the consequences of this vendor lock in are. Hope they like it. I doubt it'll be the last time something like this happens.

Very well put, and very accurate as well. Kudos.

No big deal, and the microcosm here shows why. Those who dislike and hate Apple, will continue to do so, and use every misstep to pound sand. Those who enjoy using Apple products will continue to do so. "Never the twain shall meet."

Back to reality. Anyone using Apple mobile hardware has been aware of battery software issues since iOS11.x hit the update cycles. In time, whatever rewrites causing the current problems, and not just the one in the current news, they will be resolved. Likely, not as quickly as Apple product users prefer, but eventually.

Whether anyone hates or admires the company, no new not so knew critiques will diminish Apple's bottom line and continued popularity among its users. I can drill down to root on an Apple device through the terminal more quickly than I can with android, and it is easier to modify for those who know the appropriate programming languages in use. Apple's new interpreted language Swift, is proving itself a godsend for both beginners and longtime power users. Just like Danny Goodman's hypertext language for Hypercard placed Apple users light years ahead for developing their own user applications of the day when the MacPlus was Apple's keystone product, before Hypertext matured from its underlying code for hypercard and was used to build other applications that worked across platforms and became the basis for Hypertext Mark up languages in time for internet expansion, Swift will do the same for all network communications and applications of the future.

Yes Apple has rarely marketed something new that Apple has invented. Instead Apple has finessed existing technology for the everyday user not interested in the high tech headaches, trials and tribulations faced by tech heads. And that is why Apple is walking and strutting, not running, away with 90% of the profits in the smart phone marketplace, and will continue to do so, until Apple destroys and cannibalizes the iPhone for a newer product. People forget, during the days when MS was attempting to dominate the computer world with Windows, MS wrote more software for Macs than anyone else, and that software accounted for 25% of MS's profits, especially as PC's were commoditized. Today Google pays Apple $8 bil annually to keep its search functions on Apple platforms because at least 25% of Goog's revenues come from the Apple platforms. No matter what anyone says or believes Apple has altered the space time continuum twice, something rarely done once by any companies or individuals. It brought computing to the masses and it brought smart phones to the masses, both times paving the way for its competitors. There will for Apple always be one more thing. As well, with Apple's hoard, so tempting for grubby grasping politicians tasking themselves to steal what they can, Apple has drawn a moat that will defeat them, but that's another story for another day, tho that war chest speaks of Apple's future developments, more so now that it has determined how to monetize its platforms with services to exponentially increase it profits. Not something the media understands as it claims this will make Apple less reliant on its hardware, when it does the opposite, because that eco system in built on a foundation of Apple's hardware.

Here's a little kicker for you all to check out. There's nothing like it for any of Apple's competitors. It is one of the oldest, if not the oldest tech or tech related sites on the net. MacSurfer's Headline News? Worth a gander.

Yes, I am an Apple investor. Yes, I do use Apple products, and I'm using a mid 2011 iMac right now, and it functions like it is a week old. I also have a half dozen android devices here which I use, a top line up to date Windows machine, an old but up to date Linux installation, and a custom SG UNIX workstation more powerful than a mainframe from a decade ago or 50 modern blade servers. I also am invested in MS, Google and its equity spinoffs, at least 20 or so other tech companies, all from as far back as 1974, before any of the companies I've spoken about existed. So what? Where I have chosen to invest has nothing to do with what I had to say today.

I have no doubt that any of you aren't convinced you are all smarter than anyone at Apple and anyone who uses Apple products. Then there is reality.

What do you think? Was Apple benevolently looking out for us, the consumer? Or were they trying to drive people nuts with slow service in order to boost sales of newer iPhones?

I pick the latter, and the fact that they were caught by a ****ed off 17 year old is hilarious.

I think the reason for slowing down the phones was probably true, but they lied through omission by allowing everybody to believe that the cpu was the problem and the only solution was to buy a new phone.

Apple is in serious trouble.. both PR wise, but also legally. In Europe there are laws against this kind of behaviour and they are not exactly popular with their tax situation in the first place. I expect many countries and even the EU itself, will launch investigations and start fining Apple for this. Of course in the US, Apple wont be punished since they have Congress in their pockets.

As for the issue itself... their reasoning is absolutely bull****. If it was an actual problem, then we would see the same in all phones. We do not. So either Apple are using subpar batteries or they are lying their asses off. Funny how my 4 year old Note 3 is working just fine, and running just as fast as it always has been on its original battery. Does the battery last as long as it once did? of course not, but I dont expect it to.

Apple has been doing these tricks for years.. every new iOS release slows down or breaks older phones. Several patches later and they are somewhat up and running again. It happens EVERY year. Last iOS broke many iPhone 6 and older, plus many iPad Air 1 and 2.. odd no? Quality control must be poor if it happens every single major update... or it is deliberate.

One good thing though.. even my Apple mad family are not thinking of switching due to this... and the high prices of repairs.
