$1200 minimum for next iPhone????

I have an old land line and do not even own a cell phone so I don't care if they are $10 grand for one.

All the kids. They're the ones with the most discretionary income. What a business model!!

Define "kids". I know plenty of adults who have mini-orgasms over new Apple-tech.

I also know a ton of kids who don't have $1200.

I think the last Apple product I had was an Apple II C.

lol

**** Apple and all their low-grade spec, high-priced bull****.

I don't have a problem hating on Apple. None at all.

However, they did change the world with the iPhone. Truly genius.

Depends on what features it has. I wouldn't spend that much if the only change is an OLED display but if I can, for example, have Siri take out the trash and wash the car it would totally be worth it.

Better add some good oral sex too....for $1200+

Apple will likely unveil new iPhones on Sept. 12 - Aug. 31, 2017

Hell no...

I wonder how many idiots will start lining up on the streets to get one of those????

Lol. Is this some sort of joke?

Apple really just can't keep it together without Jobs, can they. I see another 90's-style slump coming.

They've just been letting their phones get more and more dated and slow, while somehow expecting people to pay more and more money for them, and broken something as simple as a headphone jack and expected people to pay an extra hundred bucks to fix it.

This is like corporate farce, to be honest. No wonder their user base is shrinking again.

me. my iphone 5 overheated and expanded so that it now extends beyond the cover's silhouette. have to place it upside down with a weight on top of it for the phone to accept a charge. so, i hope it will limp thru until the iphone 8 release date

Well... why, though? There are better phones for a quarter of the money. If all you want is something to replace your current dying phone, literally any smartphone can do that.

That'll come when they get flexible screens sorted out. Just roll your phone into a tube, fire up the appropriate app and....

Why not get the iPhone 7 at a reduced cost? Even more reduced after the 8 (or whatever they call it) comes out. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Apple has the same problem they have always had, a proprietary OS. They thought since the iPhone was out 1st they could win with path dependence but they priced them selves out and the 3rd party nature of Android has taken over.

Yup. But, as much as I hate proprietary stuff and would never touch Apple-anything with a ten-foot poll regardless, there are ways to work with that and make it continue to be viable, at least if you're ok with only ever having a minority share of the market. And Steve Jobs proves that. He was really good at making Apple "cool," and there will always be some people who care about "cool" and are willing to pay for it... up to a point.

But every time he's not there to hold their hand, they just lose their mind with putting higher and higher price tags on crappier and crappier machines.

Apple has a huge, and rabidly-loyal fan base. Especially for phones.

It'll be interesting to see if a $1200 and up price tag truly cuts deep into that crowd. Somehow I doubt it.

my son works in high tech. gave me his iphone 5 (to replace my ancient flip phone) when he embarked on a three-year series of non-apple phone acquisitions. he is now back to an apple. all i needed to know to stay with that vendor

There are TONS of really good Android brands. I've had HTC's and Sony's that have lasted for years. I didn't ditch any of them because they stopped running well, actually. Only reason I gave up my HTC One was because it's the American model, so it doesn't get cellular service in the UK. But it still works well, and it's 5 years old now. I use it at home as sort of my Bluetooth controller.

I've certainly never had the sort of potentially dangerous problem you've had with your iPhone 5.

I still don't understand how cool it is to have inferior electronics. I guess I was just never an apple guy

Of course you can flourish with a small market share but deliberately choosing to make the same mistake twice is just a bad business model. Being first with the iPod and iPhone has kept them afloat but lack of innovation and decreasing market share are about to start coming down on them.

I was actually planning to buy an i7 when that thing came out and pushed to price of the i7 down. The more I thought about the annoyances from my last Apple phone the more I slid away from that idea.

Ended up getting an S7 edge after the S8 came out instead. I needed to replace the S4 I'd held onto for ~5 years.

The $1200 number seems invented entirely out of thin air. It would make no sense to deviate so dramatically from previous pricing.
