$1200 minimum for next iPhone????

Argh!

But I will say this: After having owned a plethora of phones, my Apple phone has been the most reliable and dependable smartphone I've ever owned by far!

And I believe that is due to it running only Apple qualified software, rather than Android's open source. I used to be a big open source guy, but no longer.

my son works in high tech. gave me his iphone 5 (to replace my ancient flip phone) when he embarked on a three-year series of non-apple phone acquisitions. he is now back to an apple. all i needed to know to stay with that vendor

My Droid has lasted years and years. Doesn't overheat, doesn't break, still charges. I've dropped it, I don't know how many times, it's landed glass side down in the parking lot. The only thing it has is a scratch it got when i was in a car accident.

lol

Apple products suck. They are low grade, lower tech, higher priced tag devices.

Apple has the same problem they have always had, a proprietary OS. They thought since the iPhone was out 1st they could win with path dependence but they priced them selves out and the 3rd party nature of Android has taken over.

Its a repeat of the Apple/ PC wars. Apple didn't learn.

The $1200 number seems invented entirely out of thin air. It would make no sense to deviate so dramatically from previous pricing.

There will be 3 phones.

iPhone 7S
iPhone 7S+

Above are the usual minimal upgrades and should be the same price as usual, although the Brits will get shafted with a massive price hike due to the falling pound.

Then there will be the iPhone 8/X or what ever they will call it, which is the 10 year anniversary phone. That is the one costing 1200 dollars.

Now the difference is simple.

The iPhone 7S and 7S+ will have the usual massive top and bottom bezels with fingerprint scanner in the "home" button. The 7S will get the 7+ camera set up, and the 7S+ will the usual small bump. They might finally get wireless charging, but there is a chance that this is only for the iPhone 8/X

The iPhone 8/X will be bezel less. Only thing there will be is a minimum top bezel where the front facing camera is, and screen on each side. Else it will be almost full screen. The fingerprint scanner will go and be replaced with Iris scanner (ironic since when Samsung came out with it, Apple were critical). It will also have wireless charging, but the older slower version (same one I have on my 4 year old S5). It will have the next generation Apple camera and so on.

Is the iPhone 8 worth 1200 dollars? No, no phone is.. not even the 1000 dollar Samsung Note 8 is worth its price imo and that is a damn good phone and camera with the latest tech in it.

I dunno. I've had Apple phones for years. My latest - a 6 I've had for 3 years - does everything I ask it to do with a minimum of fuss. Would I spend 1200 on an iphone? Nope. Wouldn't spend that much on any phone but I suspect the 8 will not cost that much in any case.

i believe that is the higher price with the 256GB rather than the base 128GB with a projected 512GB due out later in the year
based on chinese pricing

Well they should know the pricing, after all, they're the ones making them.

lol

and buying them. likely a sound benchmark

I really enjoy my iPhone 6 and I think Apple make great products. I wouldn't consider switching to Android. That said - really don't feel the need to upgrade from my 6 right now. Phone upgrades these days are so incremental that it's just not worth it to me.

Oh no, they buy the knock offs for much less money

lol

The apple knock off suck

But Chinese android phones from the looks of it do not. Market share for Samsung and Apple are dropping, the Chinese brands are moving up. Price points of course are much lower. The only important item China probably does not make is the CPU which has three major manufacturers. Qualcomm, Samsung and Intel

I don't have a problem hating on Apple. None at all.

However, they did change the world with the iPhone. Truly genius.

I'm not sure if we could call it "changing the world" per say. They made a phone. Phones already existed anyway, in fact mobile phones already existed. They started integrating things together, and I'm not sure that the world would 100% be a far different place had Apple not done so.

This isn't the invention of the Transistor.

I give Apple credit for brand marketing and duping people out of tons of money for inferior products. And without them, who would employ all those kids in China? lol

You could surf the web from a phone before the I Phone came out, the Blackberry existed before the I Phone. What the I Phone had was the combining the I Pod and a phone together. Creating larger screen for viewing

Apple truly combined a real computer, with a phone, and added a digital camera.

All into something that could fit into your pocket.

Indeed, and that's not exactly what I would call "world changing". It made a great convenience for sure, but this integration was likely inevitable and it wasn't really anything new other than the fact that it had made a sleek repackaging.

As I said, this isn't the invention of the transistor.

Currently rocking a Nexus 6P that I bought for $400 at Best Buy. It runs stock Android and it is always first in line for operating system updates (I should get Android Oreo next month).
Additionally, it is unlocked, so it works on all the major carriers.

No, that's the one an unnamed person speculated it might cost as much as without the slightest shred of an idea how they came up with that number.

Unless there's something about it that makes it more of a collector item, I'm skeptical.

Actually it was several that speculated and it is based on part on parts costs and such. However there is one thing that is almost certain.. the iPhone 8/X will be in very very short supply and wont be available until November if not later.

We shall see on the 12th, but Apple has been leaking like mad the last few years, so we pretty much know everything that goes into the phones. Add to that, that their top model at the moment starts at 769 US, and that is 130 dollars premium on the smaller version of the iPhone 7, then we can from that state that the iPhone 8/X will start at a minimum 900+ for the smallest model. Add to that, the new tech, anniversary aspect, and Apples usual "lets limit **** to make it special", and 1200 dollars is not unrealistic at all.. certainly 1000 dollars plus.

For windows desktop, it depends.. for phones.. no.

Well that is not exactly true.

When an Android app crashes, it comes up with a feedback system. Hence you know that something went wrong.
When an iOS app crashes, it "closes" and nothing comes up indicating it crashed. Hence you dont know and just think you hit the wrong button.

Fact is, most studies on the issue, shows that Android is more stable than iOS when it comes to the OS and apps.

Now speaking from my own experience on both platforms, I find that iOS/apps crashes quite a bit, especially on older devices. There are multiple bugs in iOS that have been in there for up to a decade and have yet to be fixed and many other quality of life issues. My personal hatred is the wifi password bug,.. for **** sake Apple fix that ****. App wise, there is better quality in the App store yes, but not by much and that comes down to the developers focus. Take Snapchat, it is clear here that this failing company has chosen to focus on their iOS app while their Android app suffers.

On Android there are other issues depending on the maker of the phone. Samsung phones, older models especially, are lagging due to Touchwiz hell but that is easily fixed. There are a lot of crappy apps in the store, where Google does a good job in stopping crap but it could be better. For example the Edge app in the store.. err how that was allowed I dunno but it should be removed for multiple reasons.

Overall on OS crashes.. they are rare on both platforms, but Android generally has less than iOS. I find my self rebooting iOS far more (relatively speaking) to fix a problem than Android.

So why do people think that iOS is more stable, reliable and dependable? Great Apple propaganda.. err marketing and legacy. iOS use to be far far more stable on all fronts than Android 3+ years ago and still lives on this myth.

Latest rumor is that the minimum price for the 10th anniversary phone will be 999$. Will that be for a 32 or 64 GB version.. dunno, but we shall see on the 12th!

I can see where a HUGE effort might be made to try to keep the price below $1000.

Although to me, it's still far too expensive to consider for even a second.

They changed the world with an iPhone commercial.

Yea since the Note 8 is 929 dollars, and that is the phone to beat... which the iPhone wont since it never does. Only thing that could be talking against a 1000 dollar iPhone and require a higher price, is Apples 40% margin they want on phones. Comes down to build costs.

Full details except price have been leaked.. so much for good old fashioned Apple security and secrecy...

3 phones..

iPhone 8, 8+ and X.. so no 7S and 7S+..

The X will be the premium phone with the following new/extra features.

"True tone" screen.. basically the same overblown screen tech on the iPad Pro.
No physical home button and hence no fingerprint sensor.
New facial recognition system...some sort of 3D sensors that knows it is you that are using it and will unlock it automatically. Bet a picture of someone will be able to unlock it now.
Power button on the side will now trigger things like siri, Apple pay and an SOS mode. Great more things that can go wrong. 3D touch on a physical button.. baddddd idea.
The camera will get new "features" that no one will use... something called portrait lightning, whatever that is.

The traditional iPhone 8 and 8+ will remain the same.. with True Tone screen only. Fingerprint sensor remains.

The prices might be the following

8 = 649
8+ = 769
X = 999

However I could see a price raise on the 8 and 8+ to compensate for a lower price on the X. Oh and there will be massive shortages of the X, which wont ship before Christmas.. this is due to production problems. And of course the usual shortages of the normal phones because of Apple holding back stocks to create a fake shortage.
