It is not entitlement, the entertainment industry are the entitled ones, they refuse to change to consumers.
Yes, actually it is theft. You took something illegally.
Today I have received my second "notice of of copyright infringement" because HBO claims I pirated Game of Thrones. I would like to tell them to kindly go **** themselves.
The letter encourages me to please watch Game of Thrones legally, there is one problem with that HBO, you make that insanely difficult and expensive. If I wanted to watch this season of GoT legally it would cost me approximately $120, because like a lot of people these days I do not have a cable/satellite subscription and then on top of that I would have to pay for HBO itself. That price is ludicrous just to watch one show once a week. If HBO or any other company wants me to watch their content legally they need to offer a cheap and easy way to watch it, offer a GoT pass to HBO Go for like $10 or something instead of forcing me to buy a cable subscription.
Entertainment companies refuse to adapt to changing realities that digital is king and more and more people do not have cable. Whether the company produces movies, TV, or music they seem to be struggling that the digital world, primarily that streaming is a thing and their old mediums are either dead or dying. These companies fail to realize that the primary reason people pirate their stuff is they make their content expensive and hard to access. I don't want to have to buy a blu-ray when I all I want is a mkv file I can just stream to my Chromecast and watch whenever I want without having to buy hundreds or even thousands in hardware.
I figured this would be a good opportunity to discuss piracy and the failure of these companies to adapt to new technology and markets.
It is not, they only stand to gain. If I did not pirate the show I would not have bought their merchandise as I would not have watched the show and that is true for a lot of the people who watch the show. They could capture the audience that pirates it by offering it online for streaming at a cheap price but they don't, they just forgo that profit.
Isn't the show on Netflix or Hulu or something? Why not just bust out for a $10/mo subscription to one of those and watch it that way?
Then do not ask for the benefits of that service. I think BMWs are overpriced, that does not mean I should just steal one...

One of your friends, somewhere, watches it legally.
Ask them to record it for you.
Offer to buy them a pizza, or some beer or something.

Whatever dude, rationalize it any way you wish. You are stealing. Period, end of story.
I did not, please tell me what I stole from HBO. I took nothing form them, they did not lose money. I did not steal Game of Throne from them, I watched a show online.
Let's get this straight before anybody goes and complains about me. I have FIOS TV Premium package. I have Netflix. I have Amazon Prime. I have spotify premium. Do I still torrent? Yes, of course! Why, you ask? If I miss an early episode of a new show, I will download it to watch it then and see if I want to continue. If I don't like it it's no different than me deleting the series from my DVR. If I do like it, then I will watch the stupid show gaining the TV show a new viewer and perhaps a die-hard fan. If there is a show on Hulu or Crackle that I want to watch and I don't have a subscription for that channel. I will download that show. I will also be downloading the new star trek show when it comes out. I can't pay for all these streaming services just to watch one show on each one. Maybe if I didn't have a cable package they would entice me, but right now it is just not worth it to cut the cord. I watch too much TV and I need my live broadcasts. All these streaming subscriptions will add up to the same price I've been paying for cable.
I also torrent movies shamelessly. One or two days a year, I sit down and pick out what movies I want to watch that came out that year and then I download them and watch them. I go to the movies about five time a year to check out the big blockbusters everybody cares about anyway.
PS There are ways around that pesky notice. I got it the first week I got internet and then I got around it
So you think expensive productions should just be free?
And companies continue to refuse to adapt to the wants of consumers and they have no one to blame but themselves, end of story.
Well for me all they can do is send a strongly worded letter, my ISP won that court case.Like IS aid before I would not have watched GoT if I could not pirate it, and I would not have watched it and bought all that merchandise of it.
^^^No it is not, they make it expensive and hard to access, it is their fault. Their product is priced far higher than what a lot of people are willing to pay, if they want to actually sell the Game of Thrones show as a product they need to give better value for money. Without piracy Game of Thrones would be far less popular and profitable than it is.
The entire industry refuses to change and then they blame consumers.
Not in Canada, you must have a cable subscription. I also don't care about the latter, American companies have very little power here the worst they can do is send the letter.
No but I think they should charge a reasonable amount for it not $120. But right now they don't offer an affordable option so I watch it online, they do not lose money, they even make money from the sale for merchandise like t-shirt I wear on Sundays and free word of mouth advertising. The only reason my Dad has HBO is because I told him about GoT. Since they do not let me stream for $10 I just pirate and buy a t-shirt instead.
Well buddy, seems like your real problem is with Canada and not HBO
Why not just steal the car you want if they're not willing to sell it to you for $100?
