Just to brighten up your day. Eat, drink, and be merry and all that.

This is why we have to cool down the earth's core, so that we can remove the ever looming threat of volcano!

I'm sure you're being sarcastic. The earth's core serves a lot of life-giving functions to this planet.

Only dead planets and moons are cool at the core.

That will clear up anthropogenic global warming. The volcanoes don't care how much CO2 they emit.

I think "clear up" is a poor choice of words.

And what could happen is no excuse for anthropogenic global warming.

That's as dumb as chronic smoker's excusing their habit as saying, "Well I'm going to die anyway."

No room in the forum for humor?

We could use another basalt flood. Clean the place up a bit.

Actually a super volcano would solve global warming. First it would block out the sun dropping the temperature significantly. Second it would create world wide famine easily cutting the worlds population by two thirds or more. Plus we would no longer need to exploit Mexicans to pick the food we could no longer grow. It would solve our illegal immigration problem as well.

What happens to the world after I (and a few close friends/family) am gone means little to me.

It can blow up, humanity can die out...whatever.

Not my problem.

I, for one, do not have a very high opinion of humanity. I did at one time...I no longer do.

And though I would do nothing to hasten it's demise. If it's gone in a couple hundred years...whatever. I am quite sure the universe can live without us just fine.

No, hatchet faced 'liberals' rule DP to whom a sense of humour is entirely foreign. In this they closely resemble their icon, Hillary Clinton.

Oh my! :lamo

Btw what in the hell is "hatchet faced?"

As long as you're not in in the blast and ash radius or are effected negatively yourself right?

Oh, you won't be affected negatively unless you happen to reside on the third rock from the sun.

Unfortunately with a super volcano an entire hemisphere is affected for years. It is also very likely the other hemisphere will see significant climate change as well depending on how ocean currents and other things are effected. Even the "Know it All" cannot predict with any certainty how the earths climate will be effected. One thing we do know for sure is that nature tends to weed out the weak on a regular basis. Whether it is a super volcano, asteroid/meteor strike, viral/biological, or even long term climate change those unable to adapt will perish. The current global warming has allowed our current population to swell into the billions but a super volcano could trigger an ice age making our current population unsustainable.

One thing for sure is that after each natural cleansing a period of renewal that is usually beneficial to those that survive. Pruning the tree more or less allows it to grow stronger and better.

If you're unaware that humor can be difficult to convey with pure text, you probably should have your internet activity supervised by a parent.

Earth go "BOOM"!

I have higher hopes for humankind.

I would not be so quick to write off the trillions of moons and planets in our universe that have cores that cooled as being dead or lifeless. At least until we have explored a few million and can use that small percentage to form such a theory.

You might want to read up on how the earth's core and it subsequent magnetism are vital to protect us from harmful radiation from the sun. That's what I was referring to. And the movement of the earth's crust due to core activity is vital to constantly reshaping and revitalizing the planet.

I have already read extensively on our magnetic field and super volcanoes. I became interested in and started reading up on volcanoes after my first trip to Yellowstone in the early 70's. I am just pointing out that to make a general statement that just because a moon or planets core has cooled and no longer produces a magnetic field does not rule out the fact that they can still harbor life. While humans may not survive, be forced underground, or incorporate some other protection there are a lot of species that can and will survive cosmic radiation. NASA has already proved that. The fact is scientist can only guess at all the side effect of earths core cooling. One thing we can be certain of is that most of our theory's from the past have been inaccurate, wrong, and misunderstood. To assume we now know all the answers and are right is arrogant and goes against all previous history. It is very likely in a thousand years most of what we believe to be facts today will be as accurate as what we believed a thousand years in the past were facts.
