A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket soared off a seaside launch pad at NASA's Kennedy Space Center here today (March 30) on an unprecedented second mission to deliver a spacecraft into orbit, proving the booster's reusability.

The two-stage, 23-story-tall rocket lifted off at 6:27 p.m. EDT (2227 GMT) in the second launch in two weeks for Elon Musk's SpaceX, which is ramping up its flight rate following an accident in September.

Amazing stuff. Not only did a re-used rocket take off again for the first time, it landed a second time on an ocean barge as well without a hitch. Reusability is critical if spaceflight is to become routine. Me likey. :cool:
 
I've been looking forward to this day for a long time. This has always been the primary goal for SpaceX to enable all of the other cooler goals they have like settling Mars. We really can't overstate how fundamentally important this achievement is. Think of the price difference of flying on a plane when you don't throw away the plane after every use.

What he did was hand over space transportation to the private sector.
