Good short vid from WSJ on relative growth/viewership of Youtube, Netflix, Facebook etc.
65 Years of video gets uploaded to youtube every day.
and they know, with algorithms, how to make you watch more/longer.

YouTube viewers world-wide are now watching more than 1 billion hours of videos a day, boosted by algorithms personalizing user lineups. The number represents a Ten-fold increase from 2012.​
 
My kids almost never watch "TV shows". If they are watching TV it is almost always various YouTube channels. Some of it is very educational. And some of it is beyond asinine.
 
...all those choices...and still the number one choice in youtube videos is...kittens. Videos of kittens.

Some smart person oughta start a kitten channel...if they haven't already.

I'm not going to like this comment but I'm right there with you. They watch youtuve on the TV and the stuff they watch drains my brain cells just walking by an inadvertently hearing it. I swear, there is no hope for our future. It's gonna be Idiocracy.

I find I am watching youtube much more than regular TV lately. It's because I have a short attention sp..

Hey, what's that over there? Squirrel!
 
I watch a lot of YouTube, but only for educational purposes. Need to replace some Windows, but have never done it before? No problem, YouTube will show me. Need to trouble shoot my washing machine? No problem, YouTube has a video of people taking apart my exact make and model. Etc etc.

Let's see...they watch some people play a video game called Minecraft and comment on it. They've watch people open up what's called "blind bags" which are toys that you buy but you don't know which one is in inside so it's a secret. Some lady uses nail-polish remover to remove paint on toys, like My Little Ponies, and draws new faces on them and stuff.

Watch at your own risk.

Maybe you should point them to the better side of YouTube, also I do not see how that is much better than what is on TV.
 
I haven't had TV in years. I found that I hardly watched it, and it's expensive. I watch Hulu, Netflix, and Youtube. Many hours of entertainment to be had on those three.

Youtube is a helluva drug, though. Sort of like crack rock. I call it "Falling into the Youtube Hole" where I can get on a topic and binge watch videos all night. Like idiots messing with the Queen's Guard or people telling the police to eff off during a traffic stop. Or parrots annoying cats (that's some funny **** right there and I don't like birds or cats).
