God dammit, NASA

What, you've never heard of weather delaying a launch?

the weather would also delay a horizontal launch.

So with this, you fly to a part of the equator that doesn't have weather.

Fly it somewhere else to add millions of dollars to the cost of the launch. It would be cheaper to delay the launch.

I've seen no costs as yet so I'm not sure a horizontal launch would be any more expensive than a pad launch. There may also be fewer G's with the horizontal launch, though that's not confirmed either.

And assuming there's an added cost, yes, I can see some situations where a launch could be time-sensitive enough to warrant added cost. Military satellites in particular come to mind.

Well for one you'd need a specialized runway to hold all that extra weight of the 6 747 engine plane.

For another, satellites aren't fire and forget, usually there's an army of technicians washing and waxing the thing up till the last second before launch so you can't just fly the whole contraption to Guatamale and say, "Go."
