In the so-called Luhansk and Donetsk "people's republics", there is no free transfer of capital, and transferring big funds out of the area is extremely difficult. There is no legal banking system, and there is practically no protection of private property. But people still run their businesses.

This informative report by Spektr Project/Hromadske International explains how business activity in the Russia-occupied DPR/LPR (Donetsk Soviet Republic/Luhansk Soviet Republic) regions in eastern Ukraine has evolved from 2014 to today. Running a business in these areas is very risky and difficult due to there being few local laws governing business/contracts and these areas are under Western sanctions and shunned by global banking, financial, and transport institutions and not recognized by Ukraine.
