At separate times I have offered three proofs that God exists. The have either been ignored or denied as proof. Here are the three proofs:

1. I look around and I see a universe that is highly complex, and in this universe, I see so many things that could not happen by randomness. They had to be designed. If not God, who designed the following:
A. The human body with the unbelievable complexity of muscles, bone, veins, arteries, blood, cornea, iris, hair, reproductive organs, joints, nose, ear, eye, phalanges, finger and toe nails. Nothing truly explains this better than there is a God.
B. Animals that are similar and not similar. Some can swim, some can fly, and some can neither swim or fly. Some are black, brown, gray, blue, green, white, etc. Some walk on 4 legs and some can walk on 2. Some cannot walk at all. Nothing truly explains this better than there is a God.
C. The planets, stars, asteroids, etc. Hubble has not found the end of the universe. Could it be infinite in length. If so and we traveled at 10,000 miles per second, we would be no closer to the beginning or the end as neither exists and man's mind can't really grasp this. Nothing truly explains this better than there is a God.
D. Many things in nature have a mathematical equation to them. Where did math come from and why is it it plays a part in science?
2. On February 29, 2012, my wife and her 40-year long Agnostic husband left on a tour of Israel. I had agreed to go as I thought it was a great place to see history and historic sites. When I returned from the trip, I had yet to be born again. I still had questions. I had friends who helped me obtain the answers. I began attending church regularly. I read Lee Strobel's book, "The Case For Christ." I joined my wife's Life Group and did some Bible studies. Through all of this, God was leading me back to Him. I understand why non-believers cannot accept this as proof, but I can state emphatically, that God brought me back to him. I was never an Atheist. I never knew that God did not exist. God knew that given the chance, I would begin to have a relationship with Him. I guarantee you that I did not just wake up one morning and say I believe.
3a. There have been many events in my life that I used to say were coincidences, but they were not. One is simply meeting my wife. How we met was an unreal event and I knew that I would never date her, but I did. We have now been married for nearly 49 years. My wife's mother was one who tried to control my wife. After 12 years of marriage, I got a transfer to another city and the control cycle was broken. Then, in yet another city, I lost my job. I was out of work for 6 months. I applied for a position at a company that had a location in a different city in the same state. That company called me and told me that they thought I might have better qualifications for a job at their corporate office. That office was in the city where we first moved from. I got the job and lost it the day we closed on a house we had just built. The move was in 1989. My wife was referred to a company where her (the referrer) mother worked. She got the job and had a 25 year career there. My father died in 1992, which left my mother in dire straights as she did not drive. For six years, I ran all the tasks she needed done. If I had not been offered the move back home, I would not have been there to assist her.
3b. On this one, I won't give details. The Holy Spirit has told me what to do on several occasions. These occasions were always to help others that I did not even know. These have been blessings to me from God.

Now, the last two are personal and might be denied by unbelievers, but I guarantee you, they happened and God was the driving force. Maybe, just maybe, non-believers cannot hear from the Holy Spirit or understand how God has had an invisible hand over their lives simply because one has to believe in order to see.

And now, for those who know what I mean, my wife, kids, grandchildren, and great grandson are going out to our Bumpus Christmas dinner. :)

1. Because you personally don't understand the universe does not in any way whatsoever prove God exists.

2. Your personal feelings swayed by visiting parts of the world and reading other peoples opinions in books are in no way proof of God's existence

3. Not being able to explain why things happen does not mean God exists

I do not expect some to agree with me. The One that counts does.

Les,

Thanks for sharing.

As for #1 I think if you look up the argument from ignorance fallacy it perfectly sums up that argument. "I don't see how this could happen. There for magic". Not judging you, but I find it a very weak argument as all it does is try to pole holes in our understanding of the universe while providing no actual evidence to support a gods existence.

As for #2 and 3. I wonder honestly what your response would be if someone of a different religion told you you're exact same story but he got his instincts and his prayers answered by a different God? I've had numerous Muslims tell me of their amazing personal experiences of God. As I've also heard from a few other less popular religions, like Scientology. How do I differentiate from those supposedly false religions and yours which you claim is 100% true? Is there a good method for me to use?

The # 1 for me is as clear as can be. There is no other explanation that could bring about such a vast variety of complexities with our world. The only explanation is that there is a designer. Having a designer is not magic.

As for what I would say to someone of another religion, I have been asked a similar question on DP and my answer is that I would not argue with that person. I would tell that person that I was glad that he had such an experience and leave it at that.

The only one good method I know of is to learn. According to the website below, 32.5% of the world is Christian, followed by Islam with 21.5%. The third largest group is non-believers at 16%. Fifty-four percent believe in God or Allah, while only 16% are non-believers. It seems to me that the first question for a non-believer would be why am I in such a minority and why does this minority hold a 100% belief that they know better than over half the world. Certainly numbers do not guarantee correctness, but it should give people a reason to pause and find out why they belong to such a minority. I would suggest a non-believer find people who are believers and ask them why they are believers. From the sum of their comments, you might learn why 84% of the world believes in some kind of religion.

Also, there are some theologians who are very knowledgeable on the topic. Contact one of them and find out what they can tell you. R.C. Sproul would be a good one.

"Oh damn" said God "I didn't think of that." and poof! He disappeared in a puff of logic.

I said the One that counts and that certainly is not me, but you knew that. :2razz:

the god you belive in?

so yourself

Well to be fair I'm sure Goid from Boston exists.

The Madonna col Bambino dormiente (aka Madonna with goiter) (1465/1470) by Andrea Mantegna (1431 – 1506) was a likely representation of a "goiter" so it's possible that
goid does exist, if you're talking about hypothyroidism, it's just a case of pronunciation and spelling.

maybe just maybe

the argument that you need an uncreated complex being because you dont believe complexity can emerge on its own shoots itself in the foot

and that any story you have to assume is true in order to see reasons for it being true is not true

and that the voices and feelings in your head are you

Wow! Should I be impressed?

Depends.
What do you think it means? You should be impressed if it makes you think about the subject in a way you haven't before. For example, is it possible for God to 'disappear in a puff of logic'?
Is it possibly a sarcastic response to atheism?

If it were a sarcastic response to atheism, then it would be turn about is fair play. I do not expect God to disappear for me. For some, He may never be seen.

I already know that you don't know God. I hope you do some day.

Yesterday, Christmas Day, was such a great day. I love when we celebrate the birthday of Jesus.

I already know that you don't know God. I hope you do some day.

wont be an all powerful one that wants to be known or else i would

so i can rule that type out

so that leaves all powerful ones that want to hide but dont try very hard at it

and the limited ones that may or may not want to hide

got any reasons i should believe those types exist that dont require me to start off by believing they exist?

What is your proof that the god you know is the Abrahamic God, and not any of the thousand of other deities?
