What blessings have you received by being a Christian?

1. Eternal Life

"[SUP]6 [/SUP]For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." - John 3:16

2 Get to read the Truth

Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” - John 18:37[/SIZE]

I've learned personal humility, and responsibility to my brother, though I too often tend to be forgetful of what I've learned.

3. The Holy Spirit to aid us in knowing what we should do.

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. - John 14:26

How would I discern that you have these things?

There are many good lessons that can be extrapolated from the Bible, but your OP and follow up:
1) Eternal Life
2) Truth

are not things you can ever prove Christianity has provided, or "blessed" you with.

Many religions attempt to offer those things. They all have the same problem with proof.

Even if accepted as true, I can't conceive of eternal life as a being a blessing.

You would start by actually knowing the guy in person instead of trying to play Kreskin, as you are wont to do.

Good topic, Les...so many things, where do I start?

Knowing the truth of God's Word...
Knowing what the future holds...
Peace of mind...
Clear conscience...
True joy, no matter what happens in this world...
Serving the Happy God...
Having everlasting true friends...
Having the pleasure of seeking out those who also want to know the truth in my ministry...
Having the hope of seeing my dead loved ones again...

Just for starters...

And there's always Someone to talk to.

And there's always Someone to talk to.

Fellowship with fellow Christians is certain a blessing. So is the true freedom that comes with believing.

That is certainly true, brother, but I capitalized "Someone" deliberately.

How did you meet this "guy" in person? I've never quite understood why God would necessarily be male, either. Why the need for a sex?

I was talking about another poster, whom one should know in person before making any judgements about him.

The reason we call God father is a long story that I don't have time for right now.

There's certainly fellowship with that Someone too. :)

Well, judging by past conduct, you appear to have as little problems in making judgement without access to the real meat as anybody or everybody else here has. Not knocking that at all since it's obviously a necessity for all of us, here and in RL. Necessity in the sense that we can't always deal with people by waiting til we've been able to make an in-depth analysis first.

The dangers of assumptions notwithstanding, we'd never get anything done without them. So we work with them all the time, often going by initial conduct of the person we're assuming over. Sometimes we're right and sometimes wrong. C'est la vie.

The reason we call God father is a long story that I don't have time for right now.
How convenient.

'God' & the religions that have formed to worship it are a bunch of hooey.

hooey (uncountable)

(slang) Silly talk or writing; nonsense, silliness, or fake assertion(s). quotations ▼
I heard his speech. It sounded like a whole lot of hooey to me

More people have died in the name of Jesus Christ than have been saved (crusades, inquisitions, pogroms, holy wars, sect genocides, etc).

Have you lost your way? This is the religious forum...

Last time I got a blessing it came with a Priest and wandering hands. I am blessed as I am an atheist.

David does a great job of summing up the blessings that Christians receive:

1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
- Psalm 23

It doesn't get any better than that!

Does being "blessed" make you better than others?

What advantage does being blessed give you in the here and now? (other than a good feeling)

Why do you believe that people who follow other faiths can't be blessed?

14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. - Psalm 139:14

I also like Psalm 55...reassuring us that we have nothing to fear from the wicked, for God is with us, to comfort and protect us spiritually...even if a dear friend should turn against us, God never will...He will sustain us...

1 Listen to my prayer, O God,

And do not ignore my request for mercy.

2 Do pay attention to me and answer me.

My concern makes me restless,

And I am distraught

3 Because of what the enemy is saying

And the pressure from the wicked one.

For they heap trouble upon me,

And in anger they harbor animosity against me.

4 My heart is in anguish within me,

And the terrors of death overwhelm me.

5 Fear and trembling come upon me,

And shuddering grips me.

6 I keep saying: “If only I had wings like a dove!

I would fly away and reside in safety.

7 Look! I would flee far away.

I would lodge in the wilderness.

8 I would hurry to a place of shelter

Away from the raging wind, away from the storm.”

9 Confuse them, O Jehovah, and frustrate their plans,

For I have seen violence and conflict in the city.

10 Day and night they walk around on its walls;

Within it are malice and trouble.

11 Ruin is in its midst;

Oppression and deception never depart from its public square.

12 For it is not an enemy who taunts me;

Otherwise I could put up with it.

It is not a foe who has risen up against me;

Otherwise I could conceal myself from him.

13 But it is you, a man like me,

My own companion whom I know well.

14 We used to enjoy a warm friendship together;

Into the house of God we used to walk along with the multitude.

15 May destruction overtake them!

Let them go down alive into the Grave;

For evil resides among them and within them.

16 As for me, I will call out to God,

And Jehovah will save me.

17 Evening and morning and noontime, I am troubled and I groan,

And he hears my voice.

18 He will rescue me and give me peace from those fighting against me,

For multitudes come against me.

19 God will hear and respond to them,

The one who sits enthroned from of old.

They will refuse to change,

Those who have not feared God.

20 He attacked those at peace with him;

He violated his covenant.

21 His words are smoother than butter,

But conflict is in his heart.

His words are softer than oil,

But they are drawn swords.

22 Throw your burden on Jehovah,

And he will sustain you.

Never will he allow the righteous one to fall.

23 But you, O God, will bring them down to the deepest pit.

Those bloodguilty and deceitful men will not live out half their da

But as for me, I will trust in you.
