This is an open forum AFAIK. So dissenting opinions are banned here? I thought this was all about discussion, not intolerance of other views.

I know a lot about religion which is why I am an atheist. I graduated from 13 years of parochial education with a minor in Catholic theology & gave it up years before.

Do you know why God permits suffering?
Do you know what God's purpose for the earth is?
Where are the dead?
What is God's kingdom?
Is this what God purposed for mankind?
What is the truth about God?
Who is Jesus Christ?
How do spirit creatures affect us?

The "Philosophical Discussions" forum OTH offers more of an opportunity to voice scepticism on religion, with "believers" being prohibited from proselytizing.

Both camps can (even where not expressly stated as policy) have it each other most freely in "religion and politics". All in accordance with the overall site rules, of course.

We are blessed that God gave us life.

"Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being." - Genesis 2:7

And, for men, one of our greatest blessings is that God created woman.

The dangers of assumptions notwithstanding, we'd never get anything done without them. So we work with them all the time, often going by initial conduct of the person we're assuming over. Sometimes we're right and sometimes wrong. C'est la vie.

It is a blessing to have day and night.

Think about all the things of this world and think about how they had to be created. Think about the variety of plants, seed-bearing plants, and trees. Some plants are weeds, some plants are grass for feeding animals, and some plants meant to be eaten be men and women. Onions, potatoes, broccoli, asparagus, green beans, acorn squash, lettuce, corn, etc., etc., etc. All different from one another and yet fields grow the same vegetable row, after row, after row and they are in most ways alike. This was no accident. This was not randomness. This was planned. It was planned by God. Think of trees. Some have needles and some have leaves. Some turn beautiful colors of red, orange, & yellow in the Fall and others stay green until they lose most of their leaves.

Some of those trees produce apples, peaches, bananas, plums, and other fruit. This too was planned. Our God is a mighty God and we are blessed by the things He created. And, if I may be so bold as to say it, these are things that prove to me that God exists.

11 Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” - Genesis 1:11

What is the blessing (s) of being a Christian (believer) is being allowed the privilege to enter the Holy of Holies through the blood of the Lamb. I just can't go there at a whim but must be right with G-d to enter. I can't be harboring any sin in my life and if there is sin it must be confessed for G-d is Holy.

You don't enter His gates without preparation and expect G-d to be a vending machine to answer your prayers just because you pull the lever and expect an answer in your favor because G-d is Holy. The condition of your heart must be right with G-d for Him to hear your requests. And if you strive to keep your heart right that opens up to the greatest blessing of all true fellowship with Him.

Here is yet more evidence that God exists and offers us blessings. Look at the variety of animals. Does that look like random? Some are made to swim under the water. Some are made to fly. Others can neither swim under water nor fly. Look at the physical makeup of the animals. So different from one species to another and yet such likeness within a species. Is this random? No way! All of this was created by a great designer. We are truly blessed people.

20 And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.” 21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.” - Genesis 1:20-22
 
I find myself depending on God for everyday living. There's nothing wrong for praying for a little help.
Yes I am a Christian but there's room for improvement.

Of course not. Being blessed is an outlook. You look at the things you habe verses the things you don't.

What advantage does being blessed give you in the here and now? (other than a good feeling)

I believe everybody can be, even Satanists. Again its an outlook.

We are blessed to have a day of rest and to have time to reflect on God's grace.
Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. [SUP]2 [/SUP]By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.
[SUP]3 [/SUP]Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done. - Genesis 2:1-3
