Knowing we have a lot of Christians on the site, I wanted to ask, what are your thoughts on this?

I was listening to a podcast series related to cults and how to identify if you or others are in a cult. It was a series of different discussions.

One section was by a Christian preacher from a sermon he did. I was listening to it, and I thought he was doing a really good job. He was using examples and case studies on many cults, and he was using the bible to cite teachings on false prophets. I was really enjoying it. Then at one point, he said something about "fags." I was a little surprised, and then he said, "Yeah, that's right. I said it. They are faggots."

He also made some strong statements against the mormon faith, Catholicism, and Pentecostalism.

I looked into his background, and he is Paster Steven Anderson of the Faithful World Baptist Church.

A link to some of his work: Sermons from Faithful Word Baptist Church - KJV Bible Preaching (I noticed a sermon titled, Iceland: Nation of Bastards)

It’s very difficult to understand why anyone using that language would be put front and center in a podcast about cults from a religious perspective. To me personally, the words fags or faggots is COMPLETELY unacceptable. Unless he produced the podcast, I can’t even imagine why he was chosen. Bastard? That one I don’t have a problem with. Not sure why I don’t, actually. Maybe because, compared to faggots, it’s so tame.

Personally, I think he’s in the wrong profession.

He wasn't really front and center. It was more like a mixed artist/compilation based on topic.

I would say he produced his sermon himself, because he seems to put all of his sermons on his website.

The only real christian died on the cross.

There are many people who call themselves Christian without understanding what the term really entails.

It is supposed to be about love, acceptance, and understanding; not judgement, bigotry, and self-righteousness.

It is in one's deeds, not one's words, that shows how truly Christian they are.

No, it's about obedience to the words of Jesus, what it is NOT about is conforming to the zeitgeist of society at large, Jesus said that himself. And I suppose it would be useless to point out that you made several judgments in the post I quoted.

And it's not that I agree with what the man in the OP said, but I agree with you even less.

You only prove my point.

I think it was wrong of him to do. He may have various technical aspects about doctrine correct (if what you wrote is an indication), but there is also the matter of the heart and the example of Jesus. Jesus went to the class of people that were considered the "sinners" of society and the strongest language He used was against the religious elites. I don't think he's going to win many new converts with that kind of talk.

He certainly won't win many over to Christ with such language...Jesus went among people like this...I can't imagine him using the language this man used...

ANDERSON: To normal people, homosexuality [and] pedophilia are disgusting. To a normal person.

LIVINGSTON: Why do you put pedophilia and homosexuality in the same group?

ANDERSON: They are in the same group! Because any man who would have sex with another man would have sex with anything. Period. Like, I’ll put it this way: Any man who would have sex with another man would have sex with an animal.

LIVINGSTON: That’s blatantly not true, though!

ANDERSON: It is true! That’s reality. Even if you don’t think it’s reality…

LIVINGSTON: What do you think homosexuals should do, then?

ANDERSON: Kill themselves, as far as I’m concerned, because they’re horrible, wicked people. They’re just gonna keep molesting and destroying people. So I don’t have any advice for homosexuals, except to put a bullet in your own head so that you don’t molest my kids or anyone else’s kids.

To be fair, in the current climate he would probably have gotten away with it if he had gone after trans people.

There's three main characteristics of a cult:

1. Cults often have their own "Holy" Book apart from the Bible that they claim is God-inspired.
2. They have their own elevated deity or prophet who they claim is divinely inspired, or "like" Christ.
3. There is often inappropriate behavior of the leader towards the congregation (i.e. using inappropriate language - 'faggot' - or engaging in sexual contact, etc., with parishioners).

That's actually a pretty good definition.

The guy is insane.
Whatever point he made is lost in the the nonsense he is spouting.

Christ calls for repentance not killing yourself.

Do you consider the religion of the Torah a cult? they produced new books of scripture throughout their generations beginning with Adam, and they had prophets.

People like this "Christian" preacher in the OP like to call the LDS a cult, and many like him are not big fans of of Judaism either, because we believe God speaks to mankind today as He did anciently. Why is believing Moses talked with God face to face, restored new scripture, and belief in an exodus where the Israelites were led by a prophet across a wilderness to a promise land where they settled next to the second largest inland lake of salt on the earth(the Lord's people are called the salt of the earth) and built a great temple to the Lord...why is believing that not a cult but the LDS who also believe that God talked to the prophet Joseph Smith face to face, restored new scripture, and had an exodus during Passover where the Latter Day Saints(who are a remnant of Ephraim) were led by a prophet across the American wilderness to a promise land, settled next to the largest inland lake of salt in the world, and built a great temple to the Lord...why is belief in that a cult? One was done anciently, the other in more modern times. Only real difference.
.

Cult is defined as : " a relatively small group of people having religious beliefs or practices regarded by others as strange or sinister":

See that is open to debate. The preacher in the OP may find religions like the LDS or maybe your Jewish faith as "strange or sinister" but that is his opinion, it doesn't mean it is an intelligent one.

A hateful person operating under the guise of religion.

In the 80th percentile maybe but, based upon what I see and hear certainly not an outlier.

It is only an opinion but, I think that many of this type are just not honest enough to admit that this is what they actually think.

Judaism does not fit in with the 3 points that Logicman described.

Well, thanks for realizing it is only an opinion, personally I don't begrudge homosexuals anything.

Not a big fan of these new age labels, many on the left, like to use. I will stick with "She" if it's OK with you (or not)

You post how you want, I will do the same.

Me neither and I am a trans advocate but, I was being ironic about the pronouns.
