I found an interesting video about pork and wonder what christian posters think about it.

In ancient times diseases were rampant because people didn't know about bacteria and viruses. But with modern food safety systems as well as modern medicine, most major disease outbreaks as well as food poisoning have largely been curtailed.

Osteen is also wrong about cows being more "advanced" than pigs, taking longer to digest food doesn't make another animal superior. Cows have three stomachs because they are herbivores- they need that long time in order to process the grass- they even puke out the grass and eat it a second time: funny he doesnt mention that. ;)

And I dont care what another animal eats because Im not eating what that animal eats, Im eating the animal.

As for pork, love it!

he says it is still unhealthy though

he says it is still unhealthy though

He also says he can't taste the difference between turkey bacon and pork bacon.

Last time I checked lying was a sin too.

He can say whatever he wants, its about as healthy as eating beef or any other animal.

EDIT: Oh and another reason why cows have three stomachs is because the other stomachs actually serve as a holding cell for billions of bacteria that the cow uses to break down the grass they eat.

he claims it ,not me

You asked what Christians thought about it. I'm taking the words of Jesus over Joel Osteen

however as a priest he claims jesus did not advise pork.

Most Catholics I know eat ham for Easter. I always wondered about that.

If I were a Christian, the last person I'd listen to is Joel Olsteen.
He, in my opinion, is part of the "milk people for money" side of the religion.

Pork is awesome.
BBQ ribs, ham, chops, etc. so much awesome.

well right off he is wrong...cows, sheep, chickens etc, don't just eat clean grass, they are fed food to make them fatten fast for slaughter and that can included ground up animals

our food chain is polluted and until we demand better it won't happen

even our produce can poison us...

I've been taught that many religiously taboo foods were declared so because, in those times, they were physically dangerous to eat. In our country, we no longer have to worry about getting trichinosis from undercooked pork, but it would have been a horrible death in Biblical times. It's nonexistent in this country today...probably because we feed our hogs insecticide or some such to prevent it.

Trichinosis is infestation through ingestion of larvae...that live in our small intestine until they migrate thought our muscles and major organs until we die. Yikes!!!

There are still some people who, although they thoroughly enjoy a med rare steak, would no more eat under-cooked pork than a stick. I like my park chops medium to medium rare. Otherwise I think they're dry and tough. *shrug*

Some people won't swallow bacon because of religion. I won't swallow religion because of bacon.

Well, Christrians aren't ancient hebrews anyway. However, it isn't the disease aspect that probably drove the prohibition against pork. The factor that I favor to be the most likely reason is that the early Jews were nomadic sheep herders, and to raise pigs you have to settle down. If they ate pork, they would be likely to want to raise pigs, and that would 'split the tribe'. It's more of a motivation of keeping the culture together (at the time the prohibition was chosen). Of course, after that, it became a matter of tradition.
