Voodoo and Christianity

It is not inconsequential, it speaks directly to an inherent problem that applies to more than just any church. Collections of power and profit tend to breed aristocracy and corruption, the church is not immune to that as we have seen time and time again. The "worldview" does sound nice, and seems more inline with NT beliefs. But the reality of world history does not match the view.

I only meant it is inconsequential, insofar as the basic tenets of Christianity are concerned. The New Testament is fully in line with the Old Testament, Jesus affirmed this during his earthly sojourn. The Bible is the Bible.

No, only the extremely ignorant would consider voodoo to be in any way, shape, or form associated with Christianity. I would ask you to produce some scripture backing up the assertion that voodoo is a, "sect of Christianity", but I know how you hate having a light shone on your ignorance in this area.

Please show me a scripture backing up the assertion that Catholicism or Mormonism is a sect Christianity so I understand what it is you are asking for.

That's because humans are...human.

I never claimed Mormonism was a sect of Christianity. They are in fact distinctly unscriptural, and not (imo) Christians.

Look up the essentials of Christianity, I'm on my phone, and posting scripture right now is impossible.

When you have time and something other than a phone, please provide the scripture that backs up the assertion that Missionary Baptism or Catholicism are sects of Christianity. I will expect to see them explicitly asserted, correct? Not just your opinion of which ones are heeding the bible to the extent the you deem necessary. In other words show me something not subjective, but fully objective.

I will do my best. To be honest I am not familiar with missionary baptism. I will look it up though and assess it the best I can. If I happen to forget, please remind me if you remember. Thanks.

Because that is bumper sticker thinking, we can illustrate the difference between the congregation of a faith and the aristocracy of that faith in certain instances.

I would completely agree that not everyone out there is "padding their pockets" at the expense of the congregation, but it would be foolish to suggest it never happens. By the same token we can say that not every church organization separates themselves from the congregation and thus by majority look at the church as being the people, there will be some out there that abuse the process. We see it, we know it exists. That does not brand everyone of a faith as a problem one way or the other, just means in discussion that we cannot suggest that the Church is always the people.

That is Christian theological thinking, friend, not "bumper sticker" thinking. Anything else is either not the Church or it is in grave error. Once again, atheists show the ignorance of their opinions when it comes to Christianity.

You are joking right? Catholics do not accept most non-Catholics. Hell, in Texas anyways and I assume throughout the Bible belt, Southern Baptists think Missionary Baptists are Satan's copycat of them and visa versa and lo don't even think about suggesting Baptist without any precursory term is a real Christian religion. In order to be the one true religion, which they all claim to be, means that all other religions/sects aren't really "Christian."

Again, most of those in the wider populace have a wrong-headed, movie inspired concept of what Voodoo is, so given that, it's understandable that the ignorant would think Voodoo is not a sect of Christianity. But that ignorance isn't something one should continue with or be proud of.

No, I am not joking, and Catholics do indeed accept other non Catholics as Christian, they just consider them to be lacking the fullness of the faith. I can't speak for what the Baptists think, there are too many people calling themselves "Baptist", but historically, the original Baptists have treated other Christians as Christian.

And with atheists lack of knowledge of Christianity in general I am not surprised that they think Voodoo, Mormonism, and Jehovah's Witnesses are all "Christian sects".

I don't think you get to arbitrarily decide what is and isn't Christian.

Who in hell are you to tell me what I can and can't decide concerning the Christian faith?

You speak for yourself, not Christians.

I am a Priest in the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church, I speak for the Church.

And you don't.

It doesn't matter if you are the Pope. You don't speak for Christianity.

Invincible ignorance.

You said you are a Catholic priest. Guess what? Catholicism cannot speak for all of Christianity. That's a fact, not ignorance.

No, I didn't say I was a Catholic Priest, and you keep showing your ignorance with every post. But guess what? Catholicism can and does speak for all of Christianity. All Christians believe in the Nicene Creed, the Apostle's Creed, they all believe that the way of salvation is found in the Old testament and the New testament. You don't know what you are talking about.

You said you were a priest, then cited a Catholic church. Not my fault. And you certainly seem angry for a priest.

I think King Henry VIII would disagree with that divorce thing Catholics still maintain.

He didn't say he was a Catholic priest. He shouldn't have capitalized the "C" in "Catholic."

I guess you aren't familiar with the Apostles Creed and etc.

Maybe this is a case of a Christian being able to speak more familiarly about Christianity rather than about his presuming to speak for all Christians, which is what you have said.

And you seem unusually ignorant for an atheist. You are arguing with me over something you know nothing about.

Actually, that's the way it appears on my ordination papers.

Well, I am plugged into more ecumenical church doings than these atheists are, I can tell you that. This is yet another example of someone arguing just to argue.

You could have used your holier-than-thou knowledge to educate. Instead you've chosen to be belligerent.
