Hello,

Anyone on this thread know anything about curses, what they are, what they are alleged to do? The subject sounds all interesting and fascinating. And it has been romanticized. But to me it is all ado about nothing. Sure there have been people in the past you wanted to curse but did anything bad happen to the other fellow? Still waiting? It makes the curser feel good but nothing else.

The power of suggestion is powerful and placebos often work. Traditionally, cursing sometimes included poisoning or drugging the victim.

Which really has nothing to do with curses. But the power of suggestion works on the curser and not the cursee. :doh

If the cursee is aware of the curse, then the power of suggestion can work on the cursee. That is how curses usually work (when they work).

Google is your friend.

It seems to have worked on the Chicago Cubs, their victory in the NLDS last night notwithstading.

Curses and hexes are very tricky thing now to handle and often will come back on the caster. The best "revenge" is to invoke karma upon a person and then walk away. Otherwise the threefold rule can be a bitch.

I was cursed by my parents. Something about having kids just like yourself.

Wow, I haven't heard anyone mention the law of threefold (or the rule of threefold, whatever) in a long time. Yep, I remember that now. I thought this was going to center around that stupid baseball team curse until I saw this post. Thank you.

And coming from a Christian at that. How's that for mind blowing?

Christians do have Wiccan and occultist family members, you know.

There are people whom I love -- mostly relatives but also a few really close friends.

There are people whom I like -- mostly friends and neighbors.

There are people whom I must work with so I do -- mostly work colleagues and some fraternity brothers.

There are people whom I dislike and avoid -- mostly former work colleagues.

And there are people whom I hate and would like to kill. Regarding these my religion has taught me to respect the laws of the government (render to Caesar that which is Caesar's) and the laws of God (thou shalt not murder).

Since humans have the power given them to love, like, tolerate, avoid, and kill -- but not the power of any gods to stricken with voodoo or magic -- I limit myself to those things which I can actually do.

Alcohol helps with calming things down anytime they get really out of hand. Give that a try when you need to.

Poisoning and drugging are hard core. Women who are serial killers tend to use poison.

Poisoning was also popular in ancient Greece and Rome as well.

Moses and Jesus both talk about karma.

In Moses' writings, he says of Abraham, "Those who bless you will be blessed, and those who curse you will be cursed."

In Jesus' sayings, He says, "As you do unto others so shall it be done unto you as well."

Wicca seems to be reviving especially among single females with no hopes of marriage or lesbians with no desire for hetero marriage.

I was out hunting in the mountains a few years ago and my camp was carefully concealed behind a cluster of hills up a 4WD road that only my Jeep Cherokee Sport SUV could make it up due to ruts and ground clearance.

From my evening observation post I noticed a small caravan of cars all full of women of all ages drive down the mountain road and park at a spot that could have been a campsite based on my checking it out early, but I had decided it was too close to the road for my own individual security.

I watched them from a distance with my binos, and I noticed they set up a camp, with a bonfire, and they all got "sky clad" and danced around the fire at night.

My 50x spotting scope came in handy.

This must have been an initiation ceremony for some of the younger ones there.

They all left the next morning.

I did not disturb them or let them know I was there.

Curses are attempts to sway the universe to intercede on your behalf in punishing someone who's probably done something you don't like. While Christians and other religious adherent often frown on the idea of curses, seeing them as a form of forbidden witchcraft, they, themselves, often make use of imprecatory prayers, which are fundamentally the same thing - just disguised.

Do they ever work? I don't know, really. Some people believe that everything is in a state of vibration and that thoughts can affect that vibration. It all sounds a little hokey to me but to each his own.

Which is part of the source of my knowledge pool, but it is amazing how many people, Christian and otherwise, have such a hard time grasping that concept.

Pretty good.

This started off a little insulting, and ended a little creepy, but I don't think you meant it like that.

Honestly I am not sure and have no idea why women are attracted to Wicca.

I would think that the beautiful Catholic Xmas ceremonies with the babe in the manger and the barn yard animals all around and angels from heaven singing and all that would be exciting enough once each year, as far as hearth fantasies go.

The bonfire dance of the sky clad women for the initiation of women into Wicca is fairly well known, I think. One lady at a scuba diving club dinner told me all about it. She goes to the local Wiccan gatherings here.

If I had not seen it with my own eyes (and spotting scope) I would not have believed it. Plus the scuba lady also explained it.

So there you have it, Alyssa. That's everything that I know about it.

As long as people are happy, I don't worry about what they want to believe. I used to know a lot of girls who were big into Wicca, and a few other guys who would talk about it a lot. I bought and borrowed some books, too. All a part of growing up and experiencing life.

Wicca seems like a rather fascinating and entertaining sorority that appeals to a lot of females.

I don't know enough about it to praise or criticize it either way.
