Pat Robertson: Get away from Buddhists before you get infected [W:71]

I can't remember a time that I looked at him with a thought other than " is this dude nuts?"

I mean, I get it... when you entire career and existence consists of sermons and speechifyin'.. it's inevitable dumb stuff will fall from your face from time to time.... but dayum, Pat... retire already... go and be well in your old age.. prepare to meet your maker.... but for the love of God, stop saying dumb stuff.

He is about as worthless as Harold Camping.

Why on Earth are this woman and her co-workers spending so much time talking about religion on the job anyway?

Fifty bucks says the question was a load of caca. I doubt it really happened. But the question was one that might get an arse brain response from doddering old Pat. It's likely that the producer throws handfuls of made up questions brainstormed by the show's writers to Robertson. They film Pat's responses, pick the worst of them and edit them into specific shows to be aired on specific dates - all for news value and ratings and donations from the desperate.

So a woman goes into her work environment, that she knows is primarily a Buddhist environment, and in her very recent born-again zealotry begins badgering the the dog **** out of her Buddhist co-workers about their faith or lack of faith and/or the majesty of her faith and she is upset because they talk about Buddhism to her. Possible, but no likely. Or we have none of the real facts.

Let's just reverse the situation and make it a devout Christian workplace where one person who recently becomes a Buddhist and in her zealotry she began badgering the dog **** out of all the Christians about their faith and how they are wrong and how Buddhism is better. Who would be surprised that most, many or all of her Christian coworkers would soon avoid her because she would not shut the hell up about her beliefs and how everyone else is wrong? Maybe soon she writes into one of the many Buddhist talk shows on cable TV and complains to an insanely wealthy Buddhist show host about how she is treated badly by Christians. No ****! Could you blame them? LOL!

In either case the religious zealot would be a pain in the ass. Not really newsworthy at all unless you put the question before a madman with a television audience. THAT is what it is all about. Pat Robertson has nothing much at all to do with religion except that it has made him very rich.

Did you watch the video in the OP?

No, I was at work. I just opened the thread and saw the usual Pat Robertson hatefest.

These people don't have enough to do, apparently. I get the usual "gotcha" questions from time to time ("it says here that God created evil") but it's not constant. Pat made a horrible analogy but otherwise his advice was sound - if the place bugs you that much, leave.

Christianity spreads hate and fear while Buddhism spreads compassion and love. It's no wonder that you and Pat Robertson choose the former over the latter.

What a ridiculous thing to say. Do you really believe that?

Absolutely. Christians spend their time trying to attack homosexuals and deny them rights. Christian doctrine is that we're all born filthy, despicable humans who should be ashamed. The religion is based entirely on fear and coercion. Why should we all be christians? Because god will torture us forever if we aren't. Sorry, being threatened isn't really a good reason to believe something.

Buddhists on the other hand teach that all life is precious and that we need to learn to respect our neighbor. We're all in this journey together and no group of people is "the chosen ones". You'd be hard pressed to find a Buddhist calling Christianity an infection.

Your ignorance (willful, I suspect) is astonishing.

So true, I remember even as a kid seeing him on TV and asking my dad what was wrong with that guy lol
didnt he say the end of the world to be 1982 or something LMAO

its scary that there are so many loons that follow him

I see you're either too lazy or intellectually incapable of correcting any of it. A religion who promotes fear and subservience calling a religion of peace and tolerance an "infection". What is there to mistake?

II don't know any Christian's that even come close to spewing the hate you spew on a daily basis. You truly give atheism a bad name.

I'm pretty sure that's not for you to decide.

That's true, but only to an extent:

Or don't you know that the saints will judge the world? - 1 Corinthians 6:2

Do you not know that we are to judge angels? - 1 Corinthians 6:3

Judgment concerning eternal separation, is God's alone.

I'm not saying that means we have to give up our discernment skills. :)

Judgment concerning eternal separation is God's alone.

And he gave us some indicators how it works.

Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on them. - John 3:36

I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am he, you will indeed die in your sins. - John 8:24

So if you don't have Christ as your Lord and Savior for the remission of your sins, you're lost.

Then you should hang out more on DP. I'm not the one trying to deny rights to minority groups or tell innocent people they'll be tortured for eternity.

You truly don't see the hypocrisy in a vengeful god that punishes people "for all eternity" simply because they don't believe in things that require faith????

There's evidence also. It's called the New Testament, along with the Old.

And unless you want to spend your eternity in a flaming Pit then perhaps you should get a new viewpoint.

Normally, threatening someone with grievous bodily harm on this forum leads to a warning from the moderation team. This offense by logicman is actually worse because it threatens it for eternity.

Isn't it funny that, when given a religious context as in logicmans post, such a threat passes by unnoticed. That's because the depraved behaviour and hatred spewed by the religious has become normalized in todays culture. You don't see Christians spew that hate because you're so used to it you don't see it as hatred. Meanwhile, the rest of us recognize it for what it is. Perverted and debase. Inhuman, immoral and a cancer on society.

The 'hatred' we spew, that your beliefs are stupid, are quite literally nothing, compared to what is chanted around the globe every Sunday, about non-believers, and about believers of other beliefs.

Your "evidence" is fables, lies, and myths. Enjoy eternity being dirt, worm food, and ooze.

Nothing Pat Robertson says should be taken seriously by anyone. Pat is away with the fairies and has been for a while now. It amazes me that even one person on earth listens in earnest to the brain rotted lunatic. Nothing Pat believes is a threat to me. As a Buddhist I find this particular comment from Robertson to be interesting.

I don't really see the lunacy in thinking that Buddhism is pretty whack, although I'd call Pat a lunatic for several other reasons. Sure, Buddhism teaches nice lessons about life, some of the most amicable out of any major religion, and the Dalai Lama is a badass, but Bhuddist views on the world and reality are right up there with scientology in terms of its absurdity. 7 realms, ghosts, devas, asuras etc? It's ridonkulous.
