Re: Does God hate some people?

People go to hell. That makes no sense for a God of love to allow that. It's obvious that there are some people that God hates or at minimum that he doesn't love. I offered scripture to back up that logic.

I didn't have the time to post the whole Bible. Even if I did I doubt people would take the time to read my post.

People choose not to accept the gift God offers. But even if you could make someone love you would you want to ? That would be creepy to me.
My point is that you cannot look at the old covenant and pretend the new never happened. Moreover you cannot assume God thinks and acts as a man might. As John pointed out in his gospel God is love.
By the same token, that dog isnt smiling when he smiles at.you. Try not to project human attributes on things that are not human.

If I loved someone I would force them, persuade them or even harass them into accepting something that was good for them. If I hated them or "loved them no more" then I would care less if they accepted what I had to offer that was good for them. Shoot. I might not even bother offering it to them at all.

God hates Adolf Hitler with a passion. Is it so hard to believe that God would hate an ax murderer? If it sounds illogical then at least read the Bible verse that says he hates those who love violence.

Are those the only alternatives, take ancient writings literally, or make up your own ***?

Yes. If the Bible has no authority then it has no authority. How can it have halfway authority? or metaphorical authority?

When you refuse to believe the Bible then it becomes nothing more than a book.

In your own mind it might be, you're just smarter than everyone else. If you have difficulty accepting what the Bible says, then don't believe in it. No one is twisting your arm.

Each religion, even each sect (subset?) within them, has some differences with the others - yet they all claim to be based on the "true" word of god.

You seem to be veering around trying to say something to me about those particular verses. So why don't you just come out and address those verses?

Why can't it have metaphorical authority?

Does the Noah story have to be literal historical fact? Why can't it be an allegorical tale about listening to the prophets and being prepared for disaster?

Does the Adam and Eve story have to be literal? Why can't it be an allegorical tale about resisting temptation?

Re: Does God hate some people?

I don't believe that God hates anyone. In fact, I don't believe that God cares at the individual level. I tend to believe that we go in and out of physical form, in a progression of lives, and we come here for specific lessons to be learned. I also believe that we determine our own circumstances prior to coming back into physical form, so that our circumstances will allow the things to occur, which we need for one reason or another. That is one of the reasons why, in spite of what some would consider an excessive amount of personal losses have happened to me, I don't get pissed off, and I don't feel sorry for myself. I figure that there's something in it that I need. Sure it hurts like hell, but I never was promised a rose garden.

Re: Does God hate some people?

Nope no contradiction at all. My kid does something wrong say really wrong. do i hate him for it? no. do i hate what he did? yes.
same scope applies.

God loves people and hates sin. He will not tolerate sin and there are some people that embrace evil with open arms.

The question is whether God hates people, not deeds of people.

Re: Does God hate some people?

The question is whether God hates people, not deeds of people.

it is an irrelevant issue then.
John 3:16.

also the fact that people are not judged by being people, but by their deeds and actions.
the verses cited by the OP cite the actions and the nature of those people in general.

Re: Does God hate some people?

God only hates people who run polls about him.

Because the average believer is not smart enough to even understand what you just asked.

Metaphors are not authority. Authority is authority. Besides. I like non sequitors.

Obviously, you do.
Now, as for those allegorical tales in the Bible, is it your position that they are to be taken literally?

Only for Christians. Non-Christians don't have to believe it. Christians do or they are something else entirely.

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

You are either a Christian or you are not.

God hates damn near everyone. Haven't you been paying attention?

Re: Does God hate some people?

Does God hate some people? I say, "yes".

Psalms 5:5-6 HCSB The boastful cannot stand in Your presence; You hate all evildoers. You destroy those who tell lies; the LORD abhors a man of bloodshed and treachery.

Psalms 11:5 HCSB The LORD examines the righteous and the wicked. He hates the lover of violence.

Leviticus 20:23 HCSB You must not follow the statues of the nations I am driving out before you, for they did all these things, and I abhored them.

Hosea 9:15 HCSB All their evil appears at Gilgal, for there I came to hate them. I will drive them from My house because of their evil, wicked actions. I will no longer love them; all their leaders are rebellious.

Is this scripture a contradiction?

1 John 4:7-11 HCSB Dear friends, let us love one another, because love is from God, and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love. God's love was revealed among us in this way. God sent His One and Only Son into the world so that we might live through Him. Love consists in this: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Dear friends, if God loved us in this way, we also must love one another. No one has ever seen God. If we love one another, God remains in us and His love is perfected in us.

If God hates murderers, rapists and child molesters then I like that God.

If God hates people for "sins", many of which are stupid... then God can **** off.

Re: Does God hate some people?

The John scripture is not a contradiction, because of the NEW COVENANT.

But not the question in the poll.
