Texas Attorney General tells Houston city hall: Stop bullying Christians[W:14]

Re: Texas Attorney General tells Houston city hall: Stop bullying Christians

Let me guess, Beefheart--you aren't familiar with this particular issue and also didn't click on the link. Amirite? Just to catch you up to speed, there are plenty of people on ALL sides of the aisles who have a problem with this particular overreach.

No surprise either that you responded with a graphic OR that the graphic has nothing to do with the Houston issue.

Thanks for being the thread nanny.

Re: Texas Attorney General tells Houston city hall: Stop bullying Christians

Every single president has been a Christian, Christmas is a federal holiday, we mention God in our national motto, and pledge. The majority of our congressmen and women are Christians, they say a Christian prayer before session. Stop with this "Christians" are oppressed nonsense.

nominally, perhaps; but not really. If the major of our Congress were really Christian, the congress would 1) be functional and 2) pass much different laws than get passed and, I dare say, particularly Republican legislation would be much different than anything they talk about today.... but that is the fantasy world where Congress is actually comprised of real Christians. Sorry, I digress.

Re: Texas Attorney General tells Houston city hall: Stop bullying Christians

Moderator's Warning:
This thread is not about whether there is oppression of the whole of Christians or not. This thread is not about how many Christians have been in power. This thread is not about athiests not being allowed in power. This thread is not about what our national motto or pledge has in it.

This thread is about what Houston tried to do with several church groups and the Texas Attorney General telling the officials in Houston to knock it off. If you do not wish to stay on this topic then you had better leave this thread and not post in it because the next person/s to not stay on topic will get booted and infracted.

Re: Texas Attorney General tells Houston city hall: Stop bullying Christians

Greg Abbott is running for Governor as an Uber CON. This is another Starnes whine fest. There is no bullying, the process has barely started, no Preacher was tossed in jail. No fines handed out, the issuance of subpoenas is common, the argument over what should be included standard.

What is the issue is simple- are some preachers fomenting hate due to sexual orientation? Are they politicking from the pulpit?

The issue over what protection a preacher has while giving a sermon is a matter for the courts.

Like as if it has to do with numbers.

You'll be better served if you bother to read what this is all about instead of copy-pasting that clichéd opinion of those that most likely don't understand right issues, either.

Re: Texas Attorney General tells Houston city hall: Stop bullying Christians

Yes, obviously the Houston mayor is requesting Mosque and Synagogue transcripts as well.
I don't see this as a discrimination issue but a 1st Amendment one. That is why I am wondering if the mayor is ordering transcripts from other religious and non religious institutions.
I am also interested to see what else but biblical truth the mayor wishes to be preached in churches.

This isn't about Christians, it's about the abuse of power by Houston City Hall. But that would require an objective perspective on the issue to honestly address the problem of abuse of power by a liberal in leadership. Care to answer that issue or are you just going to do your usual attempt to divert the discussion away from anything that exposes a negative issue with a liberal?"

Re: Texas Attorney General tells Houston city hall: Stop bullying Christians

Spare me from the deceptive graphs.

Christians are not a unified block as the graph implies and the number of conservative christians (far more likely targetted for harassment by secularist authorities) is significantly smaller than the graph represents.

Re: Texas Attorney General tells Houston city hall: Stop bullying Christians

Ill say the same thing in thread I said in the other

As a christian myself on the surface, based on spectacular Headlines and hyperbole yes it seems shady. And if the subpoenas were SOLELY about finding out if religion was bashing something (which is 100% thier right that i would defend very strongly) then yes this would be a HUGE issue.

BUT since its not, its not really an issue. Or at least not unless somethign shady and FACTUAL comes out of it

Currently its about seeing if these people broke the law.

Im sure many are aware of how it would be illegal for my church to sponsor a politician or to have illegal involvement in other campaign, voting processes this is the same thing. You know illegal religious politicking.

There may have been miss conduct on these churches to get signatures or to group participation in a voting process.

Now laws on this vary from place to place so I dont know all the ins and outs but thats whats going on right now.

Again though if this was just a witch hunt this would bother me and id be in a serious up roar about it. People are free to discuss and preach about whatever they want and I wouldn't want anybody trying to dictate whats preached in my church thats a huge violation BUT thats not the issue here. The issues here is the law may have been broken and thats what this is about currently, not just speech but possible illegal voting activity and meddling.

We'll see if this changes.

Currently its nothing

Sure, and if the mayor has specific concerns about specific sermons or specific written material, all she needs to do is list them in the subpoena.

But.... the mayor does not have any specific concerns. Rather, she took punitive action against a dissident group based solely on vague and unsupported allegations made by an opposing partisan group. The fact that the mayor is alos opposed to the dissidents makes her action stink even more.

Usually one gathers evidence first, evaluates it, and then punishes. Not... punish first, then go fishing for evidence to "justify" it. Gregg Abbott, or any attorney general has a legitimate interest in ensuring that city officials in his state enforce laws and regualtions in a non partisan manner.

How about, we remove the tax exemptions from churches, and then preachers can say what they want and back candidates.

From what i understand the city is now back tracking and their over zealous mayor has thrown her own legal team under the buss.
maybe they should have thought about the constitution before hand.
