And it's unbiblical to boot.

I saw the movie expecting a good disaster movie at best (since I'd already read criticisms about it not being true to the Scriptures). Instead, it also failed in that score! Boy, it's not even a good adventure film!

When one hears the name, "Noah," FLOOD comes to mind. With all the digital effects and all that's available now, this movie was a big let-down as far as disaster movies go.

And those "watchers" remind me of Transformers!

Half-way through the film we already knew Ham will kill Tubal-Cain. It's that predictable!

From a Christian perspective, this movie managed to portray God having such poor judgement in choosing Noah since Noah seems not to "get it"....and is the "evil" man in this movie. The fallen angels were the unsung heroes - disobeying God in their determination to help mankind. The Abrahamic God is a megalomaniac, of course.

Ohhhh....and the women of Noah. They all speak like prophets who knew more than God. OF COURSE. :lamo

One of the biggest distortion of the Scriptures is showing that there are only two females in Noah's family (his wife and a girl they'd adopted and rescued). This was Noah's son Ham's biggest problem. He has no woman. This is also the root of his anger towards his father. So, how do they re-populate the world?

Genesis 7
13 On that very day Noah and his sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, together with his wife and the wives of his three sons, entered the ark.

what do you expect it was written and directed by a known athiest that had no clue probably even of the story or what it contained.
i thought evan almighty had a better noah story to it.

i won't even watch that nonsensical movie. i knew it was bad when that guy pounded his staff on the ground and fire shot out in all directions.
i think the movie was even boycotted by most churches.

which is unbiblical because noah had 3 sons and they were all married.

So it was an atheist who made it. Too bad. He could've at least tried to follow the Scriptures, AND should've focused more on fictional characters for subplots among the wicked people - subplots among people is one key ingredient of a good disaster movie - and the final hour when the disaster struck. The human element of survival would've given them something to fill the time!

I love disaster movies.....and Noah would've been a perfect vehicle for it! If let's say we just take it tongue-in-cheek.....alas even in that genre, it failed miserably.

There must be a re-make of Noah! From someone who's creative enough, and not reduce the movie to being ridiculous!

I hope someone like Mel Gibson would be interested enough. I loved his Apocalypto, and he showed what he can do with the Passion of Christ.

so no Noah getting drunk and passing out and condemning some of his decedents to slavery?

It was based on the scriptures and jewish Midrashic writings ... it wasn't SUPPOSED to be fully biblical, it was based on ONLY the bible, and nor should it be, we have enough "Christian" preaching films and quite honestly they are boring, I don't go to the Movies to be preached to, I go to be entertained, and had it been just a pure bible story it would be boring.

Well....I was not expecting something that FULLY adhered to the Scriptures to the letter. I was prepared to see it as an adventure/ disaster movie. It was terribly disappointing in that genre!

At least the makers apparently came out later (after all the complaints that it's unbiblical), to admit that indeed it is an unbiblical movie.

Deleting MAIN characters from the Bible to suit their story - eliminating the other sons' wives just to provide the conflict between Noah and Ham says it all!

Furthermore, what with all the evidences they see happening around them - monumental miracles, actually - and yet they doubt Noah?

And anyway, how could Noah get confused with the message of God?

The character of Noah ended up convoluted to boot. All his monologue and portrayal of strict adherence to God fell flat in the end! It's his wife and his daughter in-law that seems to be the prophets, not him! :)

The writer/director would've been better off to just "touch lightly" on the Scriptures (which is considered
non-fiction by believers of course), and focused on the fictional characters of the story.

The point is it's based more on Rabbinic Midrashim.

I haven't seen the Movie, so I don't know about the actual quality.

I liked it up to the point they got in the boat. After that it was just a lot of talking. ZZZzzzzz

Oh who cares about biblical accuracy I'm pretty sure Hollywood didn't get Thor exactly right either.

Indeed. Never mind the fact that a literal interpretation of the Global Flood ends up killing everything but thermophilic bacteria anyways.

Enjoy it like you would a Michael Bay movie.
I watched it. I thought it was good. It lacked the campy voice from heaven nonsense that people like to believe was the way it was. I rather liked the way it was made.

I'm not sure what the marketing for this film was like because I don't watch tv, so perhaps it's the marketing's fault, but those expecting a disaster movie went in with the wrong expectations. This was a Darren Aronofsky piece. It was brought to you by the creator of: Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, The Wrestler, and Black Swan. This isn't Michael Bay, you should not have expected a hollywood blockbuster-style disaster flick. Aronofsky is known for making films that have something to say. If you go into this movie expecting the latest Aronofsky film rather than expecting a disaster movie or a biblical piece, you are unlikely to be disappointed.

I feel I have to defend Aronofsky here. First, he made no pretense of trying to stick to the narratives in Genesis. His goal was to use the story as it was told in Genesis, in the Akkadian Gilgamesh poems, and some elements from the Book of Enoch to bring out a spiritual conflict inherent in our existence. I thought he did a fine job of that. It's fairly absurd to criticize this movie on grounds that it doesn't match the biblical narrative.

Why did the movie fail to mention that Noah was supposed to be 600 years old?

Flood sex is the best sex. Its better than make-up sex.

"Special effects" have replaced talent and artistry in recent years. The louder the bang the better the box office return.......sad.

Well, the story in Genesis depicted all of Noah's sons as having their own wives. If Aronofsky's going to use the account from Genesis, he wouldn't have made the major conflict in the movie about the lack of wives to repopulate earth! That's the premise used as the major conflict in the movie!

That's quite a big change done to main characters that are allegedly based from a book - that would be like making Katniss Everdeen a transgendered single mother who did not volunteer to take her sister's place in the game but instead went into hiding, yet making claims that it's based from the book, Hunger Games.

As I said, Aronofsky made no pretense of trying to stay true to the narrative in Genesis. He's said that several times. The point was to make a movie about fanaticism, and how easy it is for some people to think that God commands them to kill, when in fact God wants nothing of the sort. The point was also to show how human beings damage and destroy things, in an attempt to get people to reflect on their own destructive habits and attitudes.

That said, some of the elements of the movie probably depict, in a quasi-accurate way, beliefs held by people at the time that aren't mentioned in the Bible. The Watchers, in particular, are from ancient sources from the same cycles of literature, but don't figure in the Genesis narratives.

If the setting and other elements are the same as in the Hunger Games, not only would such a claim be true, it would also be required to avoid a charge of plagiarism. There are undeniable similarities between the movie and the Genesis narrative. The flood, an ark, the animals appearing, the character named Noah and his sons, and so on are all elements of the Genesis narrative.

I understand the desire to have a movie about a Biblical character stay completely true to the narrative. On the other hand, I also understand why Aronofsky chose to do what he did. Everyone knows the story of Noah as told in Genesis. He wasn't making an attempt to change how the Bible is written or any such thing. He was trying to use familiar elements to bring out some powerful points about how human beings relate to the divine and to nature. As such, criticism of the movie (of any movie, or any story in general) has to be limited to the aims and ambitions of the persons making the film. Again, it's not really fair to criticize someone for failing to do what they never set out to do in the first place.

Hollywood plays to the masses for the $$$$. I'm surprised Noah wasn't a vampire killer and that GOD turned out to be the vampire God and the angels zombies. Hollywood has run out of ideas a loooong time ago.
