Jihadists in Iraq have ordered that all women between the ages of 11 and46 undergo female genital mutilation, a UN official said Thursday.

"It is a fatwa (or religious edict) ofISIS, we learnt this this morning," said Jacqueline Badcock, the numbertwo UN official in Iraq.”

Some have compared this to male circumcision which it is certainly not (sterile conditions, medically trained personnel, performed on infants w/ no traumatizing memories, no change in function of the organ, no impact on quality of life, performed with parent’s consent, etc.--none of this is true with female genital mutilation).

Anybody want to explain to me how Islam is a religion of peace one more time? Any female Muslims want to explain why they remain Muslim or perhaps even share their experience with their own genital mutilation?

You want to tell us how ISIS represents ALL Muslims?

Female genital mutilation is against Islamic principles and has been condemned by every major Iman and Mullah of both major sects. What this shows, is where the leaders of this terrorist organisation come from.. no more no less. Female genital mutilation is a tradition in eastern Africa, from parts of Egypt to Ethiopia to Somalia.

It is also practiced by some Christian ethnic groups, though usually not as systematic as with the Moslems.

Yea, hell yea, we dont have a full fledged war going on. lets do it.

A half-way decent air campaign could probably break ISIS' back in just a few months, granted that the Iraqi Army were willing to capitalize on the opportunities it provided.

There's no reason for a "full fledged war." ISIS isn't a "full fledged" army.

It actualy originates from Africa and not from Arab islam.

Similar to how male circumcision originates from ancient Egypt.

Anyway.

As far as I know one of the first things Morsi did in Egypt after taking power was to decriminalise female genital mutilation.

These fanatics seem to be terrified of the idea that a woman could enjoy her sexuality.

The feminists won't like this at all.

Never said it did apply to all Muslims. Obviously the only females affected here are the one’s who live in location under ISIS control.
So I just want someone to explain to me how these woman-haters are peace-loving.

Great! I nominate you to go over there and explain it to them. Although I’d be real careful if you’re Jewish…or Christian…or female…or gay…or American…or Buddhist ‘cause those peace-lovers really hate those people.

Actually, what it shows is what they believe, namely the torture and mutilation of females age 11 to 46 for the sole reason that they are female.

Why are you saying an armed group on the attack is peaceful. Sometimes I just cant keep up...

If FGM was done in:

- in a sterile environment
- by medically trained personnel
- on infants (w/ no traumatizing memories)
- with parental consent
- had no change in function of the organ

would you be ok with it??

Though that may well have something to do with it, female circumscision can vary from extreme, to symbolic.

Should have been done long ago and we have the blessing of both Iran and the Saudis..

Here's an idea...let Iran, Saudi, Iraq, and a few OTHER muslim nations take care of this.

This is NOT a problem for the USofA to try to solve.
That just backfires every which way possible.

Surprised you haven't learned that yet.

I am not going to go into the details and I am certainly not going to post any of the horrific pictures.

But what i can say is that this mutilation does far more than just remove the clitoris, the outer labia is sewn together and the inner labia is sometimes cut out aswell.

Many women die during that "operation". The outer labia then grows together through scar tissue leaving only a very small hole for the woman to urinate.

Through this, urinating becomes extremly painfull for women and all the urin often cannot pass through this small hole creating a hightend risk of infectious diseases.

Women who sufferd from this genital mutilation are often recorded to have a "bad smell" and to sometimes even have clots of urin remaining trapped between the sewn together labia for years.

All of which as you can imagine causes horrific pain.

When it comes to sex, these women often have their sewn together labia ripped open during the act, causing even more pain and an even more hightend risk for infectious diseases as the tissue heals.

So I should underline that it isnt just stopping women from enjoying their sexuality. It forces them to live a life in excutiating pain.

No, but then it wouldn't be "FGM" in the first place.

Yes, extreme forms of it go very far. However, not all female circumscisions are extreme. Rather, the form it takes can vary from group to group and family to family.

No, but then it wouldn't be "FGM" in the first place.

If you consider the function of the organ to reproduce (as these people do) then all those could easily apply to fgm. In fact, much of it does happen with parental consent on infants.

(In no way do I approve of FGM, I think it's barbaric mutilation and needs to be stopped, I'm playing devils advocate a bit here and am just interested to hear your thoughts)

Half the time, the affected organs can't even manage that effectively. Surgical "corrections" of female circumcisions to allow for intercourse are pretty common, and they are often blatantly required to facilitate childbirth (if the physician doesn't simply opt for C-section or a rather severe episiotomy instead). The circumcised vaginal opening is simply too small for it's natural purpose after the procedure, and the copious amounts of scar tissue lining the opening are unable to properly stretch in the same way regular tissue would.

Besides which, it is undeniable that the procedure tends to have massive impact on the sexual function of the female genitalia as well. Clitoral orgasm, for instance, is basically impossible.

Male circumcision reduces sensitivity somewhat, but it's not like it blatantly destroys any aspect of regular sexual function like FGM does.

On my phone, title stopped with the word "genitals."

My first thought was "yes, that's true, women have genitals, what a declaration, someone in ISIS must have rented Kindergarten Cop."

I’m sympathetic. We still hadn’t finished the body count but by Sept. 12, 2001 various people (including the President) were assuring us that Islam is a “religion of peace”.

Of course not! These girls / women do not wish to be mutilated (which, by the way, does alter the function of the organ i.e. the clitoris is cut-out and--for unmarried girls--the vagina is sewn shut). This is forced on them.

Why would you even ask such a question

It might be, but as far as I know no one has called ISIS peaceful and it is very disengenious to pretend someone did for the sake of argueing the point with yourselves. Another thing, trying the make that point would bring our own religion into question at violent. In fact, I imagine 80% of the US that have been or are in combat over there were self identified as Christian and were probably actively praying at some time while there. Does that make Christinaity non peaceful. I think we probably killed a lot more of them than they did of us/.

How long are we supposed to wait if they can't get their act together?

The last time we let a regime this blatantly psychotic slide, we wound up with 9/11.
