Would the discovery of life on another planet negate the existence of god?

Would the discovery of intelligent life on another planet negate the existence of god?

Or would religion just adapt once again to fit the mold?

IIRC, in the Bible it says something to the effect that God created many creatures. If that is true (and I'm not mistaken) extraterrestrials, to a religious person, could fit under that umbrella.

So I don't think it'd necessarily negate the existence of God to many, but some would likely turn away or even begin to worship the extraterrestrials since they would be Godly in comparison to us.

Psalmes 19:1 "The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork."

No discovery will deny God.

No

No

Yes

I've read that the Vatican has a plan in place to convert the heathen aliens.

Why should something like that negate the existence of God?

Psalmes 19:1 "The heavens declare the glory of God,

No discovery will deny God.

None, at least, that I can think of.

In the Book of Moses, part of the Pearl of Great Price, Moses is shown that there are many earths and people on them, an infinite number. This earth is not the only creation of God.

Religion will do as it always has and always will....doctrine will change to fit a new reality.

In mysterious ways.

Well do give some examples. ;)

If you have 1000 different religions, only one can be completely true or all are wrong. So it is easy to find false doctrines in the religious world. For example when a powerful religion was imprisoning astronomers for going against church doctrine, later to be found what they were saying was true.

Well do give some examples. ;)

Too many to list....I'll just let these guys try:
"Once upon a time, animal sacrifice was an important part of Hindu life, Catholic priests weren't celibate and visual depictions of the Prophet Muhammad were part of Islamic art. And soon some churches in the UK may be marrying gay couples. How do religions manage to change their mind?"
BBC News - How religions change their mind

Thanks those are fine ones.

My beliefs have not changed.

No, no, and why would the discovery of other creations negate the existence of the Creator? ;)

I don't see why it would negate the existence of God at all. Assuming that God exists, there is no reason to believe that it doesn't have a hand in all of known creation and the universe. As for specific religions, yes, it might have an effect on the stability of, or significance of those.

No, no, and why would the discovery of other creations negate the existence of the Creator? ;)

So would these intelligent life forms, however unlike ourselves, be Christians as well? Would they too have little bibles to read their children at bedtime? What if their alien hands couldn't hold the bible? and what if they were unable to read our languages? I'm being facetious of course but do you see the issue here?

Why would it?

All the discovery of intelligent life elsewhere will do is bother those who think that homo sapiens are "special."

It does nothing to refute the existence of God(s).

I personally believe in angels. That would certainly fit the bill as intelligent life outside the realm of earth. I'm quite convinced I've had the privilege of meeting a couple in my lifetime. :)

Psalmes 19:1 "The heavens declare the glory of God,

No discovery will deny God.

Emphasis mine.

That might not be necessarily true. The one thing that will eventually prove or disprove the existence of God is mathematics - the impossibly difficult head-exploding vomit inducing kind.

God would be just fine...Religions however would be screwed.

If God is the creator of all life then even life on other planets would be created by him therefore it would not negate the existence of God.
If there is intelligence on another planet we have yet to discover that.

most planets that we have foudn even in the hospitable zone have to many other factors to support life as we know it.

now i am sure there there are other planets that have plants and possibly animals but we have yet to discover them.

it wouldn't really have an effect on my belief. I am not religious myself. But just because it effects religion doesn't mean it effects people that have their own beliefs.

I think it would upset religious, everything does. Gay people come out of the proverbial collective closet and the world is going to end because of it. I personally don't think religions are mature enough to survive such an event.

Not the Christian religion.
