Pope Francis, in an annual ceremony held to remember the hundreds of innocent people murdered by the Italian mafia, made a solemn plea for mobsters to change or else "end up in hell".

The mafia continues to plague much of southern Italy: just on Monday, a four-year-old boy was shot dead, along with his mother and her boyfriend, near the southern city of Taranto in a suspected mob hit.

You have power and money now from much dirty business and many mafia crimes - it is blood money and blood power, and you can't take it with you to the afterlife," Francis said in a Rome parish church packed with almost 900 relatives, many of whom held pictures of their slain loved ones.

"Men and women of the mafia, please change your lives. Convert. Stop doing evil ... There's still time to stay out of hell. That's what's waiting for you if you stay on this path."

The pope's stand is important because, according to investigators, mob bosses often seek to establish close ties to local priests as a way to show that their authority is recognized even by the Church.....snip~

Looks like the Pope will sound off to the MAFIA. They may be religious, but I don't think it will listen to much.

Maybe his intended audience was to Catholics that turn a blind eye.

I think he was using the wrong term with, convert. Since most of them in the Mafia are Catholic.

His is a message that we unfortunately hear far too infrequently. That Hell is real and that people go there.

He was probably referring to conversion of heart.

Did he not think it included the Earth and the Physical Plane within the Physical Universe?

Conversion of the heart you say.....for what? When they can, go to confession and be absolved that Sunday. Knowing by next week there will be a few more that will need to be washed away.

Huh?

A person who confesses a sin without actually being repentant is not absolved but commits a mortal sin of sacrilege.

He was speaking of hell.....Right? Hence my statement.....catch the meaning now? Which really doesn't speak to the evil that dwells within Man.

I have heard several of the types say.....they'll pay the Price in Purgatory. But in the end.....they will be saved.

Hell is not in the physical universe, nor is purgatory.

If they repent, then they will pay the price in purgatory*, but in the end be saved. If they don't repent, they go to Hell forever**.

*unless they expiate their temporal punishment on Earth, by means of indulgences

**generally speaking, it is always possible that a given individual could lack subjective grave culpability

Hell exist within all planes wherein the causal effect of time takes place.....which would be that of the Physical plane including that which is known as the Physical universe.

On the contrary, time per se does not exist in Hell.

Sure it does.....even according to that own Religions belief. It is said that Satan will be destroyed in the end and all things in that connection. Hence its time will come.....and End!

Not according to the Christian's Bible. There will be no more hell after the So called Satan is Destroyed.

Satan will exist forever.

Satan will exist forever.

Not according to the Christians.....You didn't think he would walk away from the Dark Side now, did you?

Although, after reading that I am surprised none dropped in to validate such so.

I cant see much difference between Mafia and surrounding ones self( because of a serious lack of faith) with hired swiss killers.

Theres a major difference......those in the Mafia. Give money to the Church in the tune of millions of US Dollars. Those Swiss killers really don't.

Or he was implying that what mafia does is not Catholic work, and thereby those who engage in such activity are not real Catholics even if they claim to be so. In order to real Catholics the mafia should convert into being decent hard working civilians.

Why would they convert and lose power and money over a promise that they will have a better life is sketchy. But at least the people would know that the church does not wants them nor recognizes that they are Catholics with the Pope's message.

Heya DDD. :2wave: Well you don't think the Church wants to run that big money away now, did ya?

The Mafia pays the church a lot of money in return for their blessing. I forgot about that sorry :doh

Obama is suppose to meet with the Pope this Week. The Church wants to show how they agree with him on Immigration. Despite their other differences. Also it alleged they will be discussing poverty.

Catholics do not accept annihilationism.

How does this essentially disagree with anything I said?

Not everything I say means that I disagree. I sort of noticed that while the two of you were conversing I think what the pope means was getting lost.
