"G_d"... why?

"G_d"... why?

Why not just spell it out?

I thought you were going to ask God something. As to "why", I'm not sure but I have seen several do it. Maybe it's a gesture of respect or humility? That's a guess.

God, or g_d if you prefer, is a title, not a name. It could mean YHWH, or Apollo, or Thor, or any number of gods humans have created over the centuries.

I've seen some people type G_d because they feel that God's name/noun is so holy it shouldn't be fully typed because what we say cannot bring about due justice to God's goodness and holiness.

It's similar to when the writers of the Bible would wash themselves after typing Yahweh. For some it's a sign of respect.

I've had some people who are Jewish say it's part of their faith to avoid spelling it out in full.

I write god (lowercase) - as, to me, it's just a slang used that way and is not the same as God. I know it's all supposed to be the same thing, but things have changed that it's not - it's just an exclamation of disbelief or astonishment, etc.

I prefer _o_.

A little respect (sock it to me, sock it to me,
sock it to me, sock it to me)
Whoa, babe (just a little bit)
A little respect (just a little bit)
I get tired (just a little bit)
Keep on tryin' (just a little bit)
You're runnin' out of foolin' (just a little bit)
And I ain't lyin' (just a little bit)
(re, re, re, re) 'spect

Why not r-sp-ct?
