U.N. Says that the Vatican must immediately remove child abusers

I agree but, the toothless, ball-less UN won't get it done. [and considering the atrocities they have committed, they have little room to judge]

You won't get an argument from me.

What real power does the U.N. have to do anything?

The current mess in Syria is a good example of how little power the U.N. Has.

Sorry but comments like this piss me off and I apologize if it offends anyone. I know the comments come out of ignorance and years of American right wing propaganda against the UN, but it really pisses me off.

READ THE UN CHARTER.... it is not a global police force and can not do anything without the approval of the security council. Blaming the UN for Syria is like blaming New York for the lack of water in Lake Mead.

The UN has only the power its members allows it to have. It can not do anything unilaterally. It has no military force. So stop saying the UN is not doing enough or anything because it is not suppose to do anything unless told to do so.

Instead blame Russia and China for Syria, since they are the ones preventing any action by the UN. The UN is a members club, where the members decide what the club does and does not do. Is it dysfunctional? Yes, but that in large part was the whole idea behind the UN.. to be a meeting place for countries to talk things out and when needed (and wanted) coordinate a response to a situation that effects several member countries.

If you want some sort more holy police force organisation, the form it.. but you better set the membership rules correctly because many of the so called democracies in the West would have problems becoming members if we go by the holy than though ideas coming out of the American right.

And yes the paedophiles in the Catholic Church and other religions should be charged, convicted and thrown in jail, but because we set religion above the law in certain powerful countries, then this will never happen.

Does anyone have a problem with that idea?

It sounds pretty reasonable to me.

I believe that all pedophiles must be judged for their crimes and kept away from children.

I have not read the report. And there can be little doubt that raping a a three year old or beating a 15 year old till bones break is intolerable.

I looked into earlier reports in the country in which I live. What I found was that the greatest number of abuses were quite normal or even expected disciplinary measures only a couple of decades ago. Also the number of sex related abuses by clerics was no higher than in schools, sports clubs or boy scout organizations. The reporting was all blown up and falsified the appreciation of the problem. The question was why.

Although I understand that some people would have no problem with it, I personally have a problem with the UN telling anyone what they must do.

The Holy See already has policies which provide for the removal of sexually abusive clergy. What they want the Holy See to do is

A. Counter productively loosen the Church's teaching on sexual mores, and
B. Violate ecclesiastical secrecy by releasing privileged information to civil authorities.

He's right!

The UN surely issued several sternly worded consternations. The UN told Assad: "Don't do that!" Let us not forget. Respect the UN or you might be next.

Yes, as long as the US, UK, France, China and Russia can agree on it.. else the UN is only slightly better than the US congress.

And leagues better than the EU. Neither here nor there. The UN doesn't really have any force. It has to rely on its member States, most notably the United States (largest funder of the UN, you're welcome), for enforcement. So pretty much, unless America really wants to do it, the UN won't have any ability to enforce its mandates.

One big difference is that the U.S. Congress can declare war and actually make it happen.

Sure, as soon as the UN gets the killers and abusers off their human rights council.

Sounds like you're arguing child abuse is not investigated or dealt with just because it's the UN that asks for it. If I were one of the victims that approach and thinking would leave me cold and very cynical that anyone was going to ever make the catholic church deal with paedophile priests..

Yea right, the US congress cant even agree on whats for dinner these days.

Your sentence is incoherent, and hard to understand. The UN is a sick organization, with plenty to fix within its own walls, that's my point. Furthermore, the UN is not going to make the Vatican do anything. The Vatican will have to decide for itself, no one will make it do anything it doesn't want to.

Agreed - what a worthless, soul-less, pointless collection of the pathetic.

Rubbish.

It's one of the near-unanimous things on which they DO agree - which decision always happens to be tripe.

What they can't agree on is who will serve it, and how.

Dodge.

Was that clear and coherent enough for you?

Including the victims of paedophile priests?

The EU contributes 34% of the UN's funding to the US contribution of 22%... you're welcome.

The question was why.

The reason why is because unlike schools, boy scouts organisations, or sports clubs, the Church pursued a policy of concealment, rather than reporting abusers to the authorities, they would shuffle them around and obfuscate their crimes. As the self-proclaimed arbiter of morality, better behaviour is to be expected of the Church.

Perhaps due to this limited power of UN that the requirements are only to remove (i.e., fire) pedo's from religious sites. I searched in the source for "prison" and "jail" and did not find any.

Since they are criminals well then they should be put in jail with the rest of the criminals. This should be done knowing ahead of time how frowned upon pedophiles are among the criminal community.

I cannot find the movie where a pedo priest was imprisoned and an inmate strangles him to death saying "You like ****ing young boys do you! You like ****ing young boys do you!" I think it is a 90s film, it is in the end of the movie, but I cannot remember the actors nor the title.

The priest created a good network in the church community and thought that he would get protection from them and get away even with boy sodomization. It did not work just as these priests would not be spared neither sooner or later. But while he was abusing his power he would call on a religious student to his office and I remember him using words like "Let's see it shall we!" in that movie. He gets strangled to death from an inmate in the end of that movie then.

Cannot find the link in Youtube. Does anyone remembers the movie and could find the link instead?
