I think this topic is an honest religious discussion, but Mods feel free to move if this is not appropriate for this forum.

When I read what Phil Robertson said. I cannot help but notice the core of his focus is on sex...specifically what he probably considers deviant sex
“Everything is blurred on what’s right and what’s wrong … Sin becomes fine. Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men … “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right … “

Now, a question has to be asked. Is sex really that important when we think of sin? Jesus did not really discuss sex much, except of course ask his people to forgive Mary Magdalene, saying that "those without sin should cast the first stone."

Also---this is the part that leaves me wondering what is really going on with certain parts of the Christian movement today--the seven deadly sins make no mention of sex.
16 These six [things] doth the LORD hate: yea, seven [are] an abomination unto him:

17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

19 A false witness [that] speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
Proverbs 6:16 - 6:19

It seems to me the seventh on the list: he that soweth discord among brethren; would apply directly to those who try to ostracize people who practice different sexual habits. Is it possible that real sin is getting lost in all the noise about sex?

It is also possible that eating a pulled pork BBQ sandwich or an oyster po' boy sandwich will not upset god in the least. God works in mysterious ways and is the final judge of us all.

The root of all evil is money.
Sex is the diversion that people with money throw out there to distract everyone.

The object is never the root of all evil. Researching Theology is something that I greatly enjoy, but out of every religion or spiritual philosophy I've studied Buddhism has struck me as the most profound. Out of anything it has to offer this to me is its greatest lesson.

Desire is the root of all evil.

Given a choice between the two, I would go with the the oyster po' boy, dressed.

Haven't had one of them in a long time.

People who are too stupid to engage in any sort of moral reasoning just fall back on arbitrary dogma. That is why they do not differentiate between that which is voluntary and that is not, or that which is hurtful to another and that which isn't.

They aren't following Jesus at all. They are simply picking and choosing that which validates the hatred in their hearts as they fool themselves into thinking it is their hatred that is a virtue. They could just as easily persecute those who eat shellfish or wear mixed fibers.

No, nothing wrong with sex.

It is natural and necessary, and we have the sentient brains to make it fun.

I take it that you don't let that Old Testament influence your dietary choices.

A Southeast Louisiana oyster po' boy, dressed is one of the best sandwiches made on this planet.

Try one and you'll be back for another, they're great.

Nothing wrong with sex as long as it's consensual and doesn't harm anyone.

The big problem with society is when people try to put moral judgement on sexual activities that do not violate those things.

most of the problems of the world, are because of the use of "FORCE" on people, who have done nothing wrong
.

I will agree that a lot of the problems on this planet are caused by some people trying to control other people and make them do what they don't want to do, or not do what they want to do.

North Carolina pulled pork with a good dab of slaw is easy to fall in love with as well (with a side order of cold beer).

Or Jews, of course. Replace Homosexuals with Jews and we see how ugly those attacks on gay really are.

What I find interesting in that the Bible and other teachings of Judea Christian belief systems seems to hold several keys on how we should live and treat others. For example, Luke 6:31 "Do to others as you would have them do to you." Seems to me to be a perfect lesson to follow. But, of course, few follow it.

Getting back to the sins.
* A proud look--this could easily be directed at the self-righteous who thump the Bible and wag their finger at the behaviors of others, and probably was.

* A lying tongue--probably needs no explanation

* Hands that shed innocent blood -- Same

* A heart that deviseth wicked imaginations--this one has many interpretations. I see it as aiming at the schemers.

* Feet that be swift in running to mischief-- admonishing the rabblerousers perhaps.

* A false witness [that] speaketh lies--why is this listed twice? What makes it different than the "lying tongue", listed above?

* He that soweth discord among brethren--as I mentioned in the op, I believe this could be redirected at those who create division by sewing hatred of Gays, Jews, Blacks, Atheists, Christians, you name it.

We had pulled pork last night. My sandwiches get on them a scoop of coleslaw; preferably on toasted 7-Grain.

I like your taste.

Sex can be a tool for doing evil deeds (i.e. rape, child abuse, emotional cruelty) but harming others due to excessive selfishness and/or because of anger and spite is the root of most evil.

Yeah...letting greed drive you into harming/exploiting others has to be one of the top sins.

I can't remember where I saw this but ...
... if we don't sin ...
...then Jesus died for nothing

Jesus didn't need to discuss sex much. There were already laws 'on the books' against adultery, fornication, incest, and homosexual sex.

It's because those religious fanatics are all miserable because they do things that go AGAINST their natural instincts (such as refrain from sex) and claim God will punish them if they don't. They're just jealous of the non-religious people who don't live by their strict prudish rules.

Jealous of people storing up wrath for themselves when they engage in unbiblical sex? I don't think so. They don't know how foolish they really are.

p.s. What goes on in Vegas doesn't stay in Vegas. God knows all about it!

Cheers...

Sex is a normal human activity, in spite of what MEN wrote in the Bible.
