I think this topic is an honest religious discussion, but Mods feel free to move if this is not appropriate for this forum.
When I read what Phil Robertson said. I cannot help but notice the core of his focus is on sex...specifically what he probably considers deviant sex
Now, a question has to be asked. Is sex really that important when we think of sin? Jesus did not really discuss sex much, except of course ask his people to forgive Mary Magdalene, saying that "those without sin should cast the first stone."
Also---this is the part that leaves me wondering what is really going on with certain parts of the Christian movement today--the seven deadly sins make no mention of sex.
It seems to me the seventh on the list: he that soweth discord among brethren; would apply directly to those who try to ostracize people who practice different sexual habits. Is it possible that real sin is getting lost in all the noise about sex?

“Everything is blurred on what’s right and what’s wrong … Sin becomes fine. Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men … “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right … “

16 These six [things] doth the LORD hate: yea, seven [are] an abomination unto him:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
19 A false witness [that] speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
Proverbs 6:16 - 6:19
