Next Up: Change the Bible (interpretation)

Christianity does not own marriage.

But we all know why the Left want to call it 'marriage' To normalize it in other people's minds.

Political correctness

We call it marriage because it is. A marriage between a same-sex couple and my marriage, if I got married is not different.

Gay marriage isn't a marriage in God's eyes. At best, it's institutionalized sin.

Its not enough that the homosexual lobby needs to change the Christian term of "marriage" into one that includes them; they now must change the interpretation of the statements in the bible they don't like. Tough.

I don't really see a problem if marriage is no longer subsidized. Governments should not be involved so deeply in private affairs that they prescribe what marriage is and how it is defined.

You don't have to support it but you have no right to prevent those who do from performing marriages or getting married form doing so. You have no right to force your bigotry on others, you may think it is wrong others do not.

Many years ago I was in the retail business. I sold wood furniture. From time to time I'd have someone come into the store and start nitpicking a piece. They'd point out where a knot showed or where the grain had a discoloration. They would go over each piece with a fine toothed comb diligently pointing out each and ever flaw they could find.

I would generally ask these people if they really wanted wood furniture because all those characteristics they were pointing to were part of the natural growth of the wood. If they looked at 10 different pieces they would find a "flaw" in every one of them. I'd then ask them to step back and look at the whole piece. Did they like the style? Did they like the overall appearance? 9 times out of 10 once they backed up they decided that they really liked what they saw and appreciated that it didn't look "plastic" or "fake".

The hatred expressed by the anti-religion folks are a lot like that. They tend to dig deep into the bible to find contradictions, improbabilities, and intolerance. But when they do that they miss the real, natural beauty of the story. In that they are no different than the religious zealot who gloms on to one passage and incessantly rattles that off as "the truth".

At its most basic the Bible asks that we embrace each other flaws and all, that we exercise humility in the face of God and that we accept the challenge of overcoming our base, selfish instincts.

As opposed to the tens of millions of divorcees? Every modern Christian in America has re-written the bible to suit their social values. Homosexuals just want a turn with the pen like everyone else.

It doesn't affect your Christian marriage and it actually doesn't affect your legal marriage either.

When we got married we vowed not only to each other but also to God.

Wait a minute, if we don't 'have' to support it then why is that bigotry?

Well good for you, hopefully you kept those vows. Who are you to decide whether a gay couple should or not or at least enter into a solely legal marriage. A gay couple making the same vows does not make your vows worthless.

I have every right to vote against gay marriage and support those who believe likewise. Anti-Christian bigots need to understand this.

Then call it a union. Marriage is a covenant with God.

I don't know anyone who participates in divorce pride parades.

Well it is bigoted and you have no right to force it on others. You still fit the dictionary definition of a bigot: having or revealing an obstinate belief in the superiority of one's own opinions and a prejudiced intolerance of the opinions of others.

Please show me.

Do you consider Reagan an unrepentant sinner who committed adultery against his wife for more than 50 years?

Then call it a union. Marriage is a covenant with God.

Who said so, other religions can claim it and secular institutions can aswell. The idea is not exclusive to Christianity or god.

By doing so you are forcing morals on others and denying them their freedom. No one is forcing you into a same-sex marriage.

You don't think so? Not everyone agrees with you there.
And as long as the state subsidizes marriage, adding an additional group affects everyone in society.

People who remarry are certainly still venerated by the faithful however. You'll find a lot more passages in the bible about divorce than homosexuality, there are divorces in America than homosexuals, yet it receives far less attention by comparison. Nobody even talks about banning second marriages in the political sphere.

The only way I could have possibly done such would have been at the ballot box here in Texas. "marriage is between a man and a woman"

I believe this to be correct.

How? No really, how? It does not affect you in anyway, have the same-sex couples who are already married affected your marriage?
