Why don't other religions pass out their religious texts?

I'm on a business trip at the moment, which got me thinking about this.

The hotel I'm staying at has a bible placed by the Gideons in the room, just like virtually every other hotel room I've ever stayed in.

I've never seen any other religious texts placed anywhere like that though.

Anyone know why other religions don't pass out their texts? Is it just that Christians are more into converting non-believers than other religions?

I think Christians and Muslims are more forceful into converting other than any other religion I have seen. But I do not think placing a bible into a hotel room is an attempt to convert anyone. I was told by my dad I think back in the 1950's when I asked him about the bible being in a motel room, he told me it was there in case someone forgot his bible and could read the one in the room.

I've never really thought much about it. We have them here and i'm fine with it. 60% of Australians identify as Christians. Gideons bibles are usually on the table or the desk in any Motel i've ever stayed at in Oz. There's no obligation to use it, much like there's no obligation to drink the complimentary tea/coffee, eat the biscuits or use any of the toiletry complimentary items. I just figure if you want to use them they are there, if you don't then you don't. No obligations.

Let's hope we don't get to the stage where they ask "would you like your room religious or non"? That would be a little ridiculous.

Oh I think it has already gotten past ridiculous in most instances now. Yep, I agree with you.

Is this based on experience? You have read the Torah? You have read the Qur'an?

Or is your statement based in ignorance?

Just curious - but I bet I know the answer.

The Torah is IN the bible .... (on the irony of you talking about making statements based in ignorance).

I know that Muslims don't distribute the Quran because you have to be a believer to even touch it. As an infidel you aren't good enough to have that text.

Source? I've been given a Quran by a Muslim before .... And there are plenty of Orthodox Muslims that hand out Qurans to people.

I stayed for a couple months at a motel that had 'the Watchtower' in a rack at the front desk and now and then one'd show up on my coffee table. Are J-W's Christians? Never saw a reference to Christ when flipping through the pages but I wasn't looking very close.

Witnesses are Christian and trinitarians (though some criticize their belief that Michael the Archangel is Christ as a nontrinitarian belief). They observe Sabbath as a moral law, not ceremonial. Their eschatology is that everyone's soul waits for the second coming, is awakened and 1k years pass under Christ's rule with the devil locked away. After that 1k years, the devil is let out and everyone makes their choice to side with the devil or God. They consider themselves a remnant church that will serve under Christ in the 1k years.

So Canadian hotels have windows that open? That's very interesting.

Most of the hotel I have been in have windows that open. I went to one in France that opened and it was freaking huge, almost as tall as the room itself.

You do not say? What is your position on using all religious books (instead of just one) from these private entities then?
I say it's up to the hotels to decide what books they want to put in their rooms. It's no different than choosing what TV stations to offer their customers.

Holy crap, I miss European windows. Out of all the things ... windows. Even I question myself.

Mosquitoes can go die.

Christians are specifically taught by Jesus to spread the word to non-Xtians. Muslims seem to want to kill non-Muslims and Jews just want to be left alone.

I'm guessing that the evangelical nature of Mormons of JWs come from their relationship to mainstream Xtianity and for evangelical atheists from their hatred of Xtianity.

Army pre-deployment "cultural awareness" training.

I see, I've experienced otherwise though .... I think the rule has to do With purity or ritual cleanliness, but not if Your an unbeliever, I've talked to many muslims before and I've never had an issue With that.

Quick google search...Non-Muslims touching the Quran - Islam web - English

You don't see Qurans in hotels because unbelievers aren't allowed to touch it. There is no such rule for he bible.
