HIV Patients Told by Pentacostal Pastors to Rely on God.

Actually everyone on this planet will eventually die anyway. That's the way that it works.

You are born, you live a while, and then you die.

It's been that way as long as mankind has existed.

And it's not likely to change anytime soon. No matter what some old men in dresses might say.

That's cute, but you and I both know that people with HIV/AIDS have a significantly shorter life span than the rest of us.

So the mother who was breast-feeding her infant without taking anti-virals that would have prevented her infant from getting HIV from her milk -- she was just choosing not to delay the inevitable?

Newsflash: If she had HIV/AIDS during pregnancy, that child is also infected, whether the woman takes medication or not.

Please stop acting as though being HIV positive is the same as stage 4 lung cancer:

The researchers predicted that a 20-year-old person starting ARV treatment between 1996 and 1999, the early years of combination ARV therapy, could be expected to live an additional 36 years, to the age of 56. This increased significantly, however, as time passed. A 20-year-old who started treatment between 2003 and 2005 was expected to live an additional 49 years, to the age of 69.

No. Transmission rates with no treatment vary from 15-45%, and with treatment then drop beneath 5%:

Please get your facts straight before you try to justify the murder of children in the name of freedom of religion.

Quit being a drama queen, and maybe I'll take you seriously.

I could say a lot more, but I am just going to say that this sounds dangerous to me.

What do you think?

Yeah I don't agree with that.

I hope people actually look at those articles, people can live long and fulfilling lives after being diagnosed with HIV and meds can help reduce the transmission rates. A child born from an HIV positive person may not be born with the illness and medicine can help with that.

As for the main topic it's a very scary notion to think that parents are making these life altering decisions for their children that may in fact turn out to be the difference between a baby growing up healthy and HIV/Aids free or living and dying with the illness. I don't know what laws the UK has in regard to freedom of religious expression but if there's anything that can legally be done to at least help out the kids then it needs to be done.

Yes, by all means, make it about me since you can't refute a single word I've said.

People with HIV can live long lives if they can afford the treatments. On average, annual costs of HIV treatments are around $20,000. Costs for those with more advanced cases can expect costs upward of $44,000. Antiretroviral treatments alone edge along the $10,000 range. If you found out that you were infected with HIV tomorrow, would you be prepared to pay those costs? Probably not.

This article had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with affordability or people who were forced to go without because of financial difficulties. It was about people who chose to end treatment for their minor cihldren because of their religious views. Please stay on topic.

I think it is a stupid decision that will cause them their lives. I think they have been fooled from the religious to abandon scientific medicines just in order to gain some favoring attitude in religion but that will cost them their lives. The analogy for me is to trust in God that snakes will not byte you and spread your arm towards them freely.

It is ironic that they choose to abandon reason and choose religion right now too. For a good candidate vaccine that clears away entirely the HIV virus in monkeys named SIV has been demonstrated to be effective for 50% of cases.

This new vaccine approaches the elimination of SIV with a rival virus cytomegalovirus (CMV). The later virus trains T-cells to detect and engage the SIV virus and maintains doing so until the last post of SIV is eliminated.
