Happy ramadans!

fajr 15. Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up) "My Lord hath honoured me."
16. But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair) "My Lord hath humiliated me!"

5. Say: "He hath power to send calamities on you, from above and below, or to cover you with confusion in party strife, giving you a taste of mutual vengeance― each from the other." See how We explain the Signs by various (symbols) that they may understand.

155. Be sure We shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods, lives and the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere.―

You'ld be surprised, i saw people pulling off 12 hour waiting shifts while fasting when i was living in Ankara.

You can find such people here also. But in ME they lay back from morning to dusk. No one works during this "celebration." People show solidarity with the poor by not eating just like them. See the sacrifice? See how bad the cognitive dissonance is if one is to state that religion and their belief is not real?

The thought that "They were starving whole day long for nothing" is too much for some. Hence I would say it is more difficult to drop religion after such sacrifices were made.

Wonder what could mirror this move in other religions? This sort of induce people to commit sacrifices so as they would fight reason more fiercely just to keep their beliefs invested with sacrifices cannot be an Islam only facet, can it?

Does Christianity has something to promote sacrifice such as it is with fasting in Ramadan?

learning how to endure hunger is a good thing maybe

Hunger is fine. It strengthens the soul. It's the not drinking water until sundown that worries me. Especially in the desert areas.

Happy ramadan to medusa and the rest of the muslims on the forum. Even if you can't fast, have a nice month.

6. "Of jinns and men."

Pope Francis personally reached out to Muslims around the world with Id al-Fitr greetings for the holiday that concludes the holy month of Ramadan. While the message has been traditional since 1967, usually the greetings are sent by the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, except for Pope John Paul II's similarly personal good wishes in 1991.

Pope Francis' Ramadan Greetings For Id Al-Fitr Sets Interfaith Example

I like Francis more and more. He has a blessed spirit.

tonight is Laylatul Qadr

Quran doesnt give an exact date of it and we are not suppposed to consider the hadiths to be true but with reference to prophet's some reasonable utterances it is agreed that it is the night when the holy Quran was revealed

Mohammad (SAS) said, “Look for this night during the last ten days of Ramadan.”.

Allah says in the Qur'an in Surah Al-Qadr:
"We have indeed revealed this (message) in the Night of Power. And what will explain to thee what the Night of Power is? The Night of Power is better than a thousand months. Therein come down the angels and the spirit by God's permission, on every errand: Peace! This until the rise of Morn." (97:1-5)
Allah also says about this powerful night in Surah Dukhan (smoke, mist):
Ha. Mim. By the book that makes things clear. We sent it down during a blessed night. For We (ever) wish to warn (against evil). In that (night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom, by command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), as a mercy from Thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things). (44:1-6)
Allah said in the Qur'an in Surah A 1-Baqarah (the Cow):
"Ramadan is the (month) in which was sent down the Qur'an, as a guide to mankind, also clear (signs) for guidance and judgment (between right and wrong)."(2:185)
