It wasn't just Catholics, evangelicals were also part of the liberation theology movement.
And their politics were no less their religion than anti-abortion activists in the US are motivated by religion. If anti-abortion activists in the US are killed would you say "oh it's not their religion its their politics?"
I would like to see some evidence that evangelicals were part of the liberation theology movement in latin America during the seventies.
