Do you believe that the Ten Commandments...

1) ...were written by God?
2) ...were well-written?
3) ...are out-dated?

I am not questioning whether or not God exists, as per the rules of the board. However, I have studied the Ten Commandments quite a bit and I can only come to the conclusion that they were written by humans living in a very archaic society.

When they were written, they were given to the herbrews who had left the bondage of egypt.

Those people wandered in the desert for 40 years and that was their law before they entered the promised land.

So, you've already reached your conclusion.

Man, that Christopher Hitchens was a disgusting reprobate.

I wonder how he's doing now.

How very Christian of you to mock someone who died painfully of cancer, who happened to disagree with your world view.

Gotta admit he was offensive though. He got worse as he got older, it seemed like he was filled with hatred for everyone.

He was blunt, and had no tolerance for religion. He did, however, have Christian friends with whom he got along with just fine. And how could anyone argue with what he was saying in this video?

What did he say in the video?

I couldn't bring myself to watch a video of Christopher Hitchens talking.

He goes over the Ten Commandments, then proposes more relevant ones. Such as No Slavery, No Child Abuse, No Sexual Violence (Rape).

What a bastard that Hitchens was.

I look at the 10 commandments like an owners manual for a car. The closer you come to following the maintenance schedule in your owners manual the longer your car will last, the closer you come to following the 10 commandments the happier you will be.

yea, i would have to give those prospective commandments a higher priority than the one about coveting my neighbor's ass (unless she is really hot)

Imagine how different history would have been if God/Jesus made a moral stand against slavery, rather than wasting two or three of the Ten Commandments on himself.

Oh my goodness gracious, all this time I thought you wanted an honest discussion of the Ten Commandments, now it turns out that you want to criticize the faith of others! What a complete surprise!

Don't you think your life would be better if you found something to be happy about instead of posting constant hate?

I do not think the ten commandments are out of date. Whether one believes in the Christian god or not, these commandments if followed would lead to a better world and be a benefit to society. You would basically have a crime free society. Most of the worlds religions have guidelines if that is the right word closely matching the ten commandments.

I don't frankly see anything outdated about them at all. They are pretty much keystones to living in a civilized society.
Respect, reverence, honesty, satisfaction, honor, and the other qualities recommended as ways of living are still good guideposts today.

How am I posting hate?

Have you read them in full?

How am I posting hate?

Countless millions of people in the United States and worldwide have faith in God. They enjoy that faith and it brings them and their families great happiness.

Yet, you post threads seeking to ridicule and destroy that faith. Can you imagine how much pain you would cause others, so many millions of Christians that you don't even know, adults, children, the elderly, if you were able to accomplish your goal?

That, amigo, is hate.

Are you suggesting that Christians shouldn't spread their message and destroy the faith/non-faith of others?

This attempt at deflection is so bizarre, it's like you are responding to something unrelated to what I wrote.

No, it's called identifying a double standard. Christians are allowed to spread their message/faith to every corner of the globe, yet you expect atheists to keep their views to themselves out of respect to the faithful.

Christians attempt to spread their message regarding the benefits of Christianity. A very positive, selfless thing for them to do whether one accepts their faith or not.

You aren't spreading any positive message about perceived benefits of your Atheism, you're simply attempting to ridicule and mock Christians and their faith. You spread the message of your boundless hate and need for destruction of the faith of complete strangers.

One wonders why you would be motivated to do such a vicious and non productive thing to other people.

So you would be first in line to denounce Falwell, Graham, Robertson, etc.,?

So suggesting that God/Jesus should have made a moral stand against slavery is an attack on your religion? I rest my case.

You seem to have a conversation going on in your head that is vastly unrelated to the words on this page.
