Judaism [W:141]

Devout Irish Catholic family, 9 years of Catholic school, communion, confirmation, altar boy, the whole 9 yards.

I started questioning my faith in my 20's. I started searching out alternative viewpoints and found them. I finally realized my church knew absolutely nothing, they were just making it up as they went along.

Did you ever play Jenga? That was what it was like for me. One by one a piece would be removed until the whole damned thing came crashing down.

The priestly pedophile scandal was the camel's straw for me. God's representatives on earth were more concerned about protecting their power, authority and money then protecting the souls entrusted to them. They were just like everyone else.

It was very painful but in the end a very liberating experience.

God's representatives on earth are far beyond your measly description. They are just like what you described in only one fashion they are just like everyone else. In what's important we are all fallible but in other methods some are hero's beyond compare. You need but open your eyes to see the wonder of variability that is creation. Don't be so limited in your scope of defining life.

but atheism assumes that you know that God doesn't exist. You may not believe in him, or have your doubts, but to say that you read one story and all of a sudden, you know enough about the universe to know that God doesn't exist at all, is a bit presumptuous.
It would be presumptuos, but I never said that.
I don't think that god exists, that's not quite the same as saying "I know god doesn't exist". In fact, I thought I made it rather clear that my final conclusion was that I can't know anything positive about theological matters, how did you infer from that my certain knowledge of god's non-existence?
Incidentally, I don't think I'm unique in my beliefs. I think you'll find most atheists disagree with your description of atheism above.

Again, what's with the hostility? Did I offend you in some way?
If this is about you being a believer, I'm not trying to attack or reject your beliefs. I'm honestly just trying to share my own.

There are christians who believe god listens to the prayers of Tim Tebow. Yet the desperate cries of hundreds of thousands of molested children, at the hands of priests, over the last 1500 years went unanswered.

That's a frakked up religion and that's a frakked up god.

Maybe God does listen to all prayers but still has a system in place that doesn't allow for individual consideration above one or the other.

That's a fair and sensible God.

Devout christians think atheists don't believe in god when the fact is they just don't believe in THIER god.

I think most atheists would hold out that maybe there is a god and when one comes along that they could believe in, they will do so.

Get ready because there's only one and that one will definitely reveal themselves when it's time. And even Christians will have to accept that verdict.

There is nothing sensible or fair about the abrahamic god, judaism, christianity or islam.

He is one FU POS.

Maybe he wants you to think that ever consider you're dealing with someone smarter than you?

If there is a god and there is a hell, if he ever does return the jews, christians and muslims will be first in line for a fiery damnation.

I've been looking for a new quantum mechanic. I need someone to check my electrons... whenever I can find out exactly where they are, I can't see what speed they're moving at. Very frustrating, there must be a way to fix that...

That Goshin -- he certainly has his little quarks.

Maybe there is no hell and we all go to heaven? What a pity for hate mongers?

Thanks, now I know for certain (whereas before I just suspected) that you are not merely an atheist but full of irrational hate.

A "system in place"? Do you even think about the things you write?

I may be full of hate, but it it isn't irrational.

Do you? Just because you don't listen doesn't mean the system doesn't exist.

Heaven and hell are carrot/stick constructs of the human mind, created primarily to enslave people.

So says the man with no ability to discern between right and wrong.

because....

atheism assumes that...etc...
Are you saying you're not really an atheist, but an atheist-leaning agnostic?

Then a pagan or a satanist could be considered an atheist by your standard.

Do you? Just because you don't listen doesn't mean the system doesn't exist.

Then why don't you tell us of god's system of evaluating prayer to determine those on which he will bestow his earthly boons.

Because to me, if I were god all those cries of anguish from children all over the world would have priority over whether the catholic church retains it's insurance liability policy.

You receive not because you ask not. You might be surprised of how much you could receive if you but ask sincerely.

That's why you're not God because you have not the ability to show mercy when appropriate. Trust me all happens for the sake of good and in the end, even you will see this miracle.
