A few weeks ago, a senior Greek Orthodox clergyman in Israel attended a meeting at a government office in Jerusalem's Givat Shaul quarter. When he returned to his car, an elderly man wearing a skullcap came and knocked on the window. When the clergyman let the window down, the passerby spat in his face.
The clergyman prefered not to lodge a complaint with the police and told an acquaintance that he was used to being spat at by Jews. Many Jerusalem clergy have been subjected to abuse of this kind. For the most part, they ignore it but sometimes they cannot.
Christians in Jerusalem want Jews to stop spitting on them - Israel News | Haaretz Daily Newspaper

I am a Christian, I have visited Israel as a pilgrimage for my religion, and I have experienced similar treatment. All I can say is this: we are taught to turn the other cheek. In my heart, that's what I've done. We Christians have done much worse to the Jews than simply spit on them. So my shoulders are broad enough to take it.

After all, what is Christianity but a Jewish sect anyway? We all worship the same God. Let's not judge each other. Leave that to Him.

So your cool with being spit on huh? for some reason i don't believe you. Any person with dignity and self respect would object to this type of behavior.

I have plenty of dignity and self-respect, but Christians ARE taught to turn the other cheek, and I was in a very religious mindset when I went on that trip.

It does go contrary to human nature, so I understand your skepticism. However, it's not hard to do if one has a sense of honor and duty.

As a Christian, it's the right thing to do.

Think about everything Christians have done to Jews from the inquisition onward. Of course there is some anger. "Turn the other cheek" is about not perpetuating that anger. It's about setting a good example of what a Christian is, so that the next one doesn't get spit on.

The only way I know how to honor God is to take it on the chin for Him.

The only way I know how to honor Christianity is to try my damndest to live like one.

When someone spits on you, that means they really hate you with a passion.

Man, those Jews are so full of hate! Why is this not in the mideast subforum. Religious discussion... really?

I fail to see why this is here, either. Here you have a poster with the singular purpose of portraying Jews negatively in post after post after post, and this one here is listed without comment in the o.p. and does nothing to actually discuss religion.

It is entirely dependent on where in Jerusalem you go. The haredi neighborhoods have gotten completely out of control.

Christianity is not a jewish sect or a jewish cult. It is an entirely different religion. The main Christian denominations may have their roots in biblical judaism, but the modern day judaism is not that judaism, but either reformed or talmudic judaism with whom we have no connection except a few pages in the torah.

Also, you shouldn't be discriminated against by the actions of people 800 years ago. And the jews weren't the main victims of the Inquisition ,but other Christians were.

Jews worship Jesus?

There is only one God. We both worship that one God.

My family is Swedish and Italian. Christianity spread in to Europe. If it weren't for Christ, I would be worshipping Norse gods or Roman gods right now. In that way, Jesus is my messiah (savior) because He brought me and my people to God.

Jesus didn't come to abolish the law or the writings of Moses or the prophets, but to fulfill them.

If someone did that to me in Jerusalem, particularly if I were on a pilgrimage, I would be inclined to dismiss it. If anyone did that to my wife or my child, that person would get KNOCKED THE **** OUT.

No.

Jeuss did not come to fulfill the writings of Moses or the prophecies. If he had, then the enemies of Israel would have been killed 2000 years ago and Jesus wouldn't have been crucified for the sins of mankind... and the jews wouldn't have called for him to be crucified in the first place. Jesus was not the messiah they were looking for because he didn't want to fulfill the prophecies. And yes, he did abolish a lot of laws.

Remember the law about tooth for a tooth? It was replaced with turn the other cheek. Do you know the one about stoning people to death for adultery? He got rid of that one too (in theory at least, it was practiced in Christian countries a long time after... until Enlightenenment came about and things got better). And the examples go on and on with examples Jesus preaching new "laws" which are meant to "humanize" us. Not His fault those who came after him decided to do the same things as the ones He rebelled against.

Anyway.

We do not worship the same God because Jesus is our God (as well as the Holy Spirit) and they do not accept neither. which clearly shows a difference in our belief system.

Jesus answered him, 'The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.''" Mark 12:28-29

yes, and he ended up trying to fulfill the 'other' prophecies, the ones that the jews didn't want to be fulfilled, and din't fulfill the ones that they did want. Or rather... he was trying to fulfill them in a different way than it was expected or desired.

Yes, there is just one God. Nobody is denying that. But the Christian God = God, Jesus and the Holy Ghost, all as one entity. It's like one of those coffee things, 3 in 1. The jewish God = Yahve (or just God). See the difference?

"I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished." - Matthew 5:18

There is another bible verse that says the Jews will not accept the Jesus until the full number of Gentiles has been converted. That will be in the "end of days." I can't find the passage now, though. Paul says something like this, and there is mention in Revelations. Anyway, it's God's will that the Jews don't accept Jesus at this time.

There is no difference, only a different path to God. Jesus is divine because he was a man 100% filled with the Holy Spirit. In other words, what he lived and taught was perfect, and as such, we can look to him as a teacher and example and come to God through Him.

The Holy Spirit exists in Christians, but it exists in some Jews and some Muslims and some atheists as well. Some people choose to listen to the Holy Spirit, and they do good. Others choose to listen to their own ego, and they do evil.

But there is only one God. The Holy Spirit is what we call God within us, the law written on our hearts.

John 1:1 "In the beginning there was the Word. The Word was with God, and the Word was God"

Turning the other cheek does not involve not reporting criminal offences. They should be pleased that they get so many tourists pouring money into their economy.

I hope a Jew visiting my country would inform the police if this happened to them.

Christians in america would prefer that jews stop splashing their filth in their faces as well.

Oh, it's one of those threads.

Does that make Islam a Jewish sect too?

Judaism isn't a religion?

Ohh, I see. You want this in ME cause you don't like people criticizing the Jewish faith. Makes sense now, falls well within the pattern.
