Hell & The Devil

Matthew 4:8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
4:9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

So do only certain versions of the Bible "translate" into the parts posted above?

Seems to be a very specific mention of Satan and Devil.

We Catholics do not have a choice in the matter, Hell and the devil are matters of de fide doctrine. It's no reason to fear though; it's also a matter of de fide doctrine that the devil loses in the end.

The devil lost a long time ago, when he disobeyed God and was cast from Heaven. Satan isn't as big a deal as he's made out to be.

Well, I was speaking from a strictly Christian perspective, as you had earlier referenced Christian scripture (and I happen to hold the Christian viewpoint). Of course the Bible mentioning them doesn't necessitate their existence for those who do not regard the Bible as the true word of God, but I don't think that for a Christian it is at all debatable whether or not they exist.

I agree. For any believer in a particular faith the existence of their deity isn't in question.

So where are the people who think eating anything but fish on Friday is a sin?
Where are the people who think a female wearing pants is a sin?
Where are the people who think drinking alcohol is a sin?

Where are the people who believe there is a Hell, there is a Devil with a pitch fork, horns, a pointed tail, and a forked tongue who's a bright red color and tortures souls for eternity in fields of fire?

These images are so popular and almost a part of our culture that is seems impossible for somebody here to not believe that's a possible reality.

Where is Ted Bundy's soul? Jeffrey Dahmer? Jim Jones? Adolph Hitler?

Seems more like you're calling people out, rather then pursuing a mere curiosity.

Well - I haven't gotten much response from those who believe there is a Devil and there is a Hell.

You might want to work on your tone then. If people think you're just going to criticize a very personal aspect of their life, they aren't going to tell you about it.

Whatever, if you're reading intent and tone into something that's not something I can change.

We got to 11 pages and over 100 posts, so perhaps you just have a problem, and others don't. Feel free to move along.

If I didn't care I would not have asked a question in the first place.

Do you believe there is a Devil, and that there is a Hell?

What are your beliefs in how one ends up in Hell?

Does God ultimately oversee Hell? Is God the true manager of Hell?
He'd have to be if God is the supreme creator and power of all things.

The notion and concept of a Devil and Hell is fascinating.

Considering the variety and differences in the world's religions, I'm curious as to what people think regarding Hell, and who goes there, and why.

Does a Catholic believe that all non-Catholics will go to Hell? Jews? Muslims? Baptists? Hindus?

Does God send souls to Hell? Or does the Devil take them? Is the Devil as powerful as God?

Is the devil a god of sorts?

Explain how you personally define this part of your ideology. Please.

Yes.

When one commits mortal sin and dies in that state, one goes to Hell.

Hell is as far away from God as is possible for something that exists.
God is only involved in Hell to the extent he keeps everything in existence.

God and Heaven are better.

People go there because it is less painful for one who hates God to be away from him than it is to be in his presence.

Not all of them. Although it is normatively necessary to be Catholic to avoid Hell.

Souls send themselves to Hell.

No.

What specifically?
