So would you wear a "666" sticker at work?[W:178]

re: So would you wear a "666" sticker at work?[W:178]

What exactly would this mean if your HAD to wear it?
What might you be susceptible to, or setting yourself up for that otherwise wouldn't happen to you if you didn't wear it?

Do you think "god" would immediately turn his/her back on your for wishing to keep your job?
Would the "devil" suddenly gain access to your mind/soul because you wore a number?

What's the rationale behind the fear?

There is no rationale behind the fear of 666 or of 13 or any other number. Ever step on a crack? Did it break your mother's back? Was the rabbit's foot lucky for the rabbit? Few people really believe in that sort of nonsense, but still, it does make people uneasy. What if the (totally bogus and irrational) story is really true?

There is no rationale it's a superstition.

In the interest of background information, the whole 666 thing is based on the idea that the Roman emperor Nero was the antichrist. People in almost every generation have been sure that the end times were upon them and tried to fit current events into the (fairly vague) prophecies. Nero was emperor from 54 to 68 AD. This was before any formal version of Christianity existed, possibly before any of it was written down, and certainly before it bore any resemblance to modern Christian views. 666 is the representation of Nero's name in Hebrew numerology. Plenty of other names and words would produce the same number. Unless someone really thinks that this one Roman emperor had that much significance, despite not actually being the herald of end times, fearing this number is silly.

Unless Eddie is involved. In which case, run for you life.

I have a thing about wearing anything on my skin, preferring a sterile look. I don't even like designer tags on my clothing, kit, and gear.

The guy in the OP needed to be more forward thinking. If they wore stickers about how many accident free days, he should have seen it coming. Have an "accident" on the 665th day. Problem solved.

Interesting, I wondered just what the origin of the 666 might have been. Another thing about a three digit number: Back at that time, it would have had to have been just three six's, as the decimal system of counting had not yet been invented, so 666 was not six hundred sixty six, as we think of it today.

I'd wear it upside down so it said "999"

If someone gets himself fired because of superstition, he's a hazard anyway, and best got rid of. What other irrational nonsense might affect his work? There's no way to tell.

just like that judge made that bakery make the wedding cake for the gay couple, this company will pay a hefty settlement for this

don't know about you, but I'd be afraid to eat a cake that a judge forced a bakery to make for me. who knows what could have "accidentally" wound up in the mix?

I agree, it is like sending your food back at a restaurant and the waitress brings it back hiding her devilish grin
