    Sign or X-mas Decoration????

    https://dmlnews.com/family-told-remo...ideo-pictures/

How the hell is anyone truly "offended" by this???? Truly pathetic.

Now, from the HOA point of view, is it a sign? Looks like a sign.
What makes a sign, a "sign"?

(Lets not even talk about that teeny tiny nativity scene that reminds me of the mini Stonehenge in Spinal Tap. )

The jesus? Sign or X-mas decoration?

(please don't turn this into the evils of HOA's discussion it might turn into)

The simple fact is that the majority in a housing area decided to form an hoa. Those hoa have rules and this violated those rules. The same rules that said a guy couldn’t have an American flag on a pole in his front yard. The other simple fact is that the majority can dissolve said hoa but the majority have decided they don’t want to. Bottom line if you don’t like it, take it up with your legal reprention and take it as far as your pocket book or the ACLU will take it.

Hoestly, if you live in an area with a homeowners association, you probably signed something saying you would respect certain rules. You are free to live somewhere elsr that doesn't have them.

While it was intended as a Christmas decoration, it is a placard of some kind with words printed on it. Besides the fact that it's an ugly abomination against good taste, it is no doubt a sign.

I know you said don't turn it into an "evils of HOAs" but that's really what is at fault here. The family is going to keep the sign up -- and -- probably sometime in January, they're going to get a massive fine from the HOA. Legally, they'll have to pay it. HOAs have incredible backing in the law.

Here's the deal though, the sign is kind of tacky. I don't know the average home value in that HOA, but I'm very familiar with many local HOAs and anything that detracts from the look of the neighborhood is a no-no. A big plywood sign with "JESUS" in sparkly garland and lights strewn carelessly over it won't cut it in many HOAs. Be honest, that sign reeks of "trailer house" and I can see why neighbors thought it was out of line.

That said, I doubt religious signs are actually banned -- just gaudy homemade ones.

I'm guessing that HOA president Bud Vance is not going to have a very quiet Christmas this year...

The answer is it's a homeowners association, so everybody's yard has to look exactly alike: if they let one go, then it'll be a Kwanzaa extravaganza in someone else's yard, then of course there'll be the ten foot menorah...

Looks like a sign to me, but so what? Why would the HOA find a sign that says "Jesus" offensive any time, particularly at Christmas?

Maybe the homeowner's name is Jesus. Lots of people around here have that given name.

If you don't want to follow the HOA's rules, don't live where there's a HOA. I would never, ever, under any circumstances, live under a HOA. It was the #1 rule to my realtor when we were looking for a new house. No HOAs or other associations, period.
There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide the world that cannot be achieved more rationally through entirely secular means.

If ya can't figger out that it is Jesus in the Manger, the name in lights ain't gonna help.

It's both. It's a sign that is a christmas decoration. It's not permanent.
