In fact just this week the church that George Washington attended for over 2 decades announced.
Let me just say this. Mr. Washington wasn't a big church goer. He went maybe once a month.. many times he didn't even do that. I read multiple biographies on this great man (George Washington) and it was noted with many sources wherein it was stated that George went to church, he got baptized I believe (as did many of the day) but that he believed his time was better spent out on his horse hunting fox, chopping wood, organizing 'his papers' (god I love that old timey talk, muh papers lol), overseeing his estate/land etc.
He was a big time planter, was heavily into reading, certainly. But he wasn't all that into reading the Bible I believe.
Many on the right love to say we are a Christian nation, and God was referenced. But George was more of a deist than a Christian. (I believe he actually had an encounter with an angel before but this is hearsay for obvious reasons). He (and many of our Founding Fathers) believed in A God, The Author but not Yahweh exactly.
They believed in Divine Providence, in a Creator who just created us and took a "hands off" approach. Christians believe God created us and has a 'hands on' approach
So when you say for over 20 years, he attended maybe 10 times or less. You make it sound like he was a regular church-goer. Just wanted to point that out.
INB4 I revive this thread from the dead.
