Not really. The thread was about Christians opposing groups like the Klan; the reason, of course, being that the Klan's beliefs and practices are evil and a perversion of Christianity. "The Resister" has been busily trying to defend the Klan, on the other hand, because apparently in his world he is unable to accept that the Klan has committed these crimes

Two reasons why it is important to emphasis white conservative Christians making that statement. Historically, a number of the groups that have been extremely racist, and sometimes violently so have been White christian conservatives. That has given the association in other people's minds linking white christian conservationism with racism. So, if you get that group condemning racism, that helps counter the effect of the stereotype. The next part is that people who are the white conservative Christian racists will be more willing to listen to someone who is also their own demographic to learn they CAN change and overcome those attitudes, rather than have it hammered from 'people that would be considered outsiders.
