I don't believe there is a god. I believe that humans evolved and, just as we have changed physically over the years, our culture and language and customs and even our morality, the names and abilities of our gods, have changed to suit the circumstances. The entity you call "god" exists as a subjective relic of human evolution that has and will change along with every other aspect of our species' evolution, perhaps even out of existence.
It's beautiful really that whatever joys and tragedies we experience in our lives we know that we are but a small part of something greater than it ever was but not as good as it can be. As someone who believes in evolution, I know there remains the possibility that human potential is greater than the writers of the bibles could have conceived.
Hopefully, we can one day become a species secure enough in its understanding of the world and its place in history that we don't need subjective spiritual spackle to fill in the gaps and religious opiates to comfort us. If we ever give up faith, we may have to rename our species, as religion is such a common part of the human condition that it is, quite obviously, a human trait.
If religion provides you some comfort then I don't begrudge you that, if you need it. Faith is a very human thing to have. I draw the line, though, when it authorizes murder and oppression, which it does too often. The religious should be especially self-conscious about making magical claims, and yet they aren't. That's the selfish thing about it.
