What? Why?

What's the point?
For what reason does the USofA "need" an official Ambassador to the Vatican?

How does having an Ambassador to the Vatican help the USofA in any way at all?

The Vatican is a country and the US has ambassadors to most countries (generally only excluding those it has poor diplomatic relations with like NK or Iran). Like ambassadors in most small countries (and probably quite a few large ones), they probably do have minimal impact on the general good of the USA but it’s always possible for something significant to come up where having someone in place with an established relationship and local knowledge is vital. The ambassador will also head up the lower level work of an embassy, such as providing support for US citizens visiting or living in the country in question.

Yep. Stalin already pointed out hiw few divisions the Pope has.

Well, the Vatican is technically a country.

Napoleon Bonaparte told his representative to "treat with the pope as if he has 200,000 soldiers."

It is a nation. It has many contacts throughout the world. It provides us with a way to appeal to those nations. American citizens can have a friend there in the Vatican. The real question is...why not? Let me guess? Religious freedom? Atheists need one more reason to cry about religion?

Because it doesn't make any sense to send a dog-catcher?

Probably the same way having an ambassador to Malta does, except Malta is less-important of a country.

What exactly is your objection?

There are shopping malls in the world that cover more acreage.

There are apartment buildings in the world that are home to more people.

Vatican City has zero exports.

They must import 100% of everything they need to exist.

They make nothing. They grow nothing.

If it's so important that we have an Ambassador there, then why the hell would we openly insult them by considering sending Callista Gingrich ????

I ask again, what is your objection?

Should we pull our ambassadors from places like Ghana, Upper Volta, Haiti, Cyprus, etc.?

This has nothing to do with atheism.

Lousy guess.
