Look, as off-base as this thread is, I'll admit that the left has a problem with specific advocacy turning into a generalized political correctness. However, you seem to have an overactive imagination here. Islam is not the monster factory you pretend it is. The majority of Muslims DON'T pose a threat to you and I and, somehow, despite your paranoia, find a way to interpret the Koran that does not manifest as violence.
Nobody is saying you can't criticize Islam, if there is a specific passage that offends you, but to lump all of Islam into one violent box is to distort reality. When you do that, when you form an argument that is hysterical and hyperbolic, you are acting like the Muslim fanatics. True, you're not actively murdering Muslims like the fanatics do but you're head is in the same place. If you were to act upon your fears and ignorance, the result would be no different than when they do it.
So, I think the resistance from the left to your "idea" is the same resistance rational people present to all fanaticism. It is a desire for you to appreciate the nuance in this complex issue and not just create straw men and incite bigotry. Our enemies are totalitarian religious conservatives and we have a lot of them here too. We can begin our fight against their radicalism by acknowledging our own and defeating it at home. If we are no better than them, who are we to talk?
